Does anybody know where I can get free protection for my computer?
    GOOD free protection.
I currently have the paid version of Kaspersky, apparently my last full virus scan was 310 days ago, so I started one and I just came on to check how the scan was going, I have 278 Threats detected, 5 Viruses and 10 Trojans and the rest Riskware.

That is pretty god dam bad.
I do not download random programs only trusted programs, I don't accept files from other people on the internet I'm pretty much the safest person there is when it comes to receiving/downloading files.
But I somehow have all this on my computer, hopefully Kaspersky gets rid of all these threats for me, but if not I'd like to improve my protection.

I am thinking of transfering important files to my external hard drive and then just completely wiping my computer.

I've heard "Avast!" is pretty good (for free at least)... haven't used it in about a year but you should check it out.

    http://www.avast.com/index

Also, I use something called "McAffee SiteAdvisor" which gives you a warning when you try to enter a site known for being well, bad. Not sure if a lot of scanners and stuff already have this but it might be helpful.. helps me at least :p

    Hope I helped!

I use Avast! and its great.

I do have a cracked full version with all the extra protection, which im sure you could manage to find somewhere.

But, if thats not your things, The free version of Avast! is still great and updates daily.

malwarebytes is also very good ( malwarebytes.org )

The above poster put a link to where you can get Avast ^_^

Avast! is the best free anti-virus protection you can get.

AVG free is very good for protection - but you may experience some lag on your computer here and there.

Avast offers good protection but doesn't slow down your computer. (Well at least not for me)

I personally use Avast on my desktop, and Avira on my laptop. I like both antiviruses considering they're free and are very good. However if you want just torrent the paid versions.

I used to use avg and kaspersky on some computers a while ago. But I subscribe through Comcast so Norton Security Suite is free.
