    Debt Collectors? PayPal?

In short: I got chargebacked, owe $$ for no reason, and guys (maybe debt collectors) knocking on my door, I'm not 18 - cash earned legitimately.

All right, so I legitimately made some money online, not selling gold, but selling legitimate items, and I got legitimate cash.

I got credit-card chargebacked and now I'm at -$$. Didn't pay for it, not my fault, it's not the money I owe.

A few months later, two guys knocked on my door asking if my parents were home, but they're weren't (today).

I'm not 18, but say, I didn't know that I needed to be 18 to create a PayPal, and I didn't see the TOS, I just checked every ticky as that's what I'm used to.

So what can I do? No trolling please, and I can prove this is LEGIT money made.

I talked to another person I met online who knew a person similair to this situtation, and made legit money almost the same way as me, but got scammed by the SAME person.

Apparently this guy's name is nightmare (not the one coding for RSBots).

He apparently got arrested and charged for fraud.

How he and I made money:
Made/coded a game, sold in game currency for real cash.

    Paper.

Try explaining the situation to them.
Honestly, PayPal debters call me once per day and I NEVER answer. My friend did once and told them they had the wrong number, they stopped calling. I did more trades, got charged back, ditched the account and we're back here again.

Why not tell your parents? I mean, i know what it's like to have such a big worry on my shoulders, it's happened to me on many occasions. What i would suggest is telling your parents as TBH you have done nothing wrong what so ever and they might be a little angry at most because you didn't scam or anything. Your parents will be able to sort it.

Sorry to hear about this and good luck with this, i hate it when i am in trouble but it's not my fault.

    Good Luck mate,

Why is this under RuneScape 2 General...? And anyway - I'm pretty sure you can get into some big trouble for not being 18 with a paypal.

Not really, me and a mate of mine had a PayPal account which got limited due to the fact we were not 18. They called up my mate and said we limited your account because your under 18 and you can transfer your funds but in future don't open a PayPal account until your 18+...

So did anything happen to you?

I'm not accepting anymore payments from the scammer. I may as well sell some of my profits to pay for the debt.. But I need to somehow get the online money into real life cash. Or I'll ask the debt collectors if I can pay by PayPal..

Nothing happened to us at all, they can't really do much if your under 18 except give you a good telling off!

Why not withdraw your paypal cash to your bank, withdraw it from your bank and pay them?

    Debt Collectors? PayPal?

    Wait,
    I'm confused.

Are they PayPal debt collectors or just debt collectors from the credit card company?

I believe it's the credit card company, but i don't see why you don't withdraw the money from your paypal to your bank, withdraw the money from your bank and pay them...

They have my address lol. So did you have to pay them or did they forget all about it? Or should I try provide proof of purchase? or not since they're only debt collectors.

    Debt Collectors? PayPal?

i've dealt a lot with paypal and this type of stuff, have been using paypal since they were based out of india, before ebay bought them out.

    anyway.

negative balance basically means, you owe the company paypal money. when making transactions you agree to terms.

get this straight, paypal is NOT a bank. they are not federally insured. it's a business plain and simple.
you owe a business money and they will put it into collections. if anyone else at your current address uses paypal, it's not unlikely they will freeze their account too. i've had that happen over less than $200 i was going to just say fuck it and not pay. then my dad called me really pissed off one day. something to consider.

how to deal with a collection agency, if they have started calling your house/phones etc don't bother talking to them. they will keep you on the line long as humanly possible and pester you to borrow money from anyone. they will ask you invasive personal questions about everything possible, even stupid shit like how much money do you spend on feeding pets... seriously.
you can look on the net for how to send a printed letter, make absolutely sure its sent with tracking, i would actually send it REGISTERED. which means everyone who handles it, signs for it. you can't lie about someone not getting that, it costs about $8 at post office. otherwise they will just throw it away saying we never got it.
the letter basically entails you requesting they not call your house and only contact by mail. this will stop the calls, they legally have to stop.

what can also happen is that the debt will follow you around, the company who bought the debt will sell it to another company and you will have to write the letter to the new one. yes eventually people will stop calling about it, but it stays on your record.

    http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/Disputing_Collections/stop-calling-letter.html

they will however continue to nag you for debt. whoever signed up for your bank account or helped you get a credit card is going to take a hit if you don't pay the money. basically someone had to vouch for you to get a bank account.

what i'd do is fight the charge with paypal, and if you lose. you are out of money. it sucks, but thats what can happen with this digital stuff. paypal's terms are insane and as a seller who's been using it for 10 years, you eat some of the losses.

good luck with collections. they are a real pain in the ass until you pay the bill or write the do not call letter.

btw, coding for a game is legitimate work. that's software programming.
but it's against everyone's TOS to sell in game currency, period.
paypal doesn't even cover digital sales. so i wouldn't bother mentioning that rpg gold was sold.

experience, 10 years of paypal and ebay. gone over 10 grand in debt twice.
fuck all that shit. i don't even own credit cards anymore lol.
debt is really a hassle and if it's not much money just pay it and be done.
sometimes the collectors will even settle. but if they do settle get them to send
a letter. if you settle on the phone and pay that amount, they will just say where's the rest?
remember, paper trail is everything. you're dealing with sharks.

    Debt Collectors? PayPal?

interesting, I myself have never been in this sort of predicament because I go through a strenuous process before doing any trades through paypal to make sure I won't get chargedback or disputed.

Your best bet is to just pay off what you owe, there's no use running because they will eventually find you and you could get into some serious trouble

How much are you under, because that must be a lot to have guys come to your door.

    Especially ones in suits.

    They cost more.

Quite a lot. And god knows that it's not me who should pay it, it should be the buyer who filed a chargeback on me with his credit card.

I'm not even 18 yet, but I've made a great deal as my game has 50+ online active in the past minute. And I've coded for many other people. They're gonna knock on my door in a few hours like yesterday. What happens if I refuse to pay?
