    Paypal Disputes

Ok, well someone who had been buying mills off me for 1.2 per mill has recently disputed all the transactions in the past 2 days.

This equates to over $2,000 which has set my balance to negative 1,000GBP (i'm english)

That's not my concern as they haven't won the disputes yet, they have used the 'They weren't in control of the account' dispute thing.

All transactions were sent as gifts with the following note, 'I have received the virtual item, I will not claim this money back, any attempt to do so is a scam'

What are the chances I will get to keep the money? Slim?

Because if they do win, I will have lost a lot of money. I have replied to each dispute (there are 10 of them) telling paypal to read the note, they were in control of the account and are trying to scam me.)

If the person did indeed attach that note, then your chances are looking fairly good. However Paypal takes unauthorized transactions very seriously, so there is also a chance they will believe the scammer. I'm not sure what will happen to be honest. I hope you get your money back.

Yes, the note is attached to every transaction that we did.

I really hope to get the money unfrozen, if I don't get the money back I can't pay for my car insurance or petrol for this month...

Sorry to hear that. In future cases maybe simply pass up an offer that seems "too good to be true." I'm not saying it's your fault - I probably would have sold him the money too. I just hope that things work out for ya because that is quite a substantial loss. If he does end up winning the dispute, try taking things to authorities (I'm not sure how that will turn out as I've never had to do that before).

If it was a chargeback your chances are slim to getting money back, if it was an unauthorized dispute you may have a chance but your best bet is to call PayPal and make sure that they check ip and if they were using any proxies.

It's unlikely you'll win the dispute. First you made paypal aware that it is virtual goods that you are selling (isn't this against tos?). Also i've lost my only two disputes (260usd and 18usd) even though I had both of them write in a similar note to yours. To be honest, I doubt the note can be used as evidence; someone stealing an account can easily write notes like that.. it's not really proof that it's not an unauthorized transaction.

    Good luck.

When I got scammed by a separate trader yesterday (this time I paid him) a similar note was on the gifts. I just lost that dispute, id be angry but it gives me hope for these payments.

You may win by the sounds of it, so don't be too stressed about it. I have had similar cases by scammers in which I lost virtual goods and payments were disputed that I have won. Virtual goods or not.

Paypal takes unauthorized transaction claims serious and will investigate fraud as equally as the bank will.
If he is in fact trying to scam you it will be revealed, just let them investigate. Just think, if they were sure it was unauthorized they would have closed the case in his favor by now.

If I was to not win this, is it possible for me to appeal against their decision?

Also, as my paypal is linked to my card and bank, as my paypal balance would go into negative if I lose, will they just start taking funds from my bank?

    Update:

Dispute still not been done by Paypal, but the guy who is trying to scam me is now sending my email messages from vtext.com he is saying stuff like 'You hacked my paypal' I just told him I didn't Paypal will check the I.P's, and then he said 'You have some surprises coming your way' so I can only imagine he has used an I.P changer or w/e to send the payments so he can get the money back :/

This actually happened to me yesterday.

    I won the case :)

    $15.00 back for me.

What I did is put that the buyer received his item and was simply claiming that someone had accessed his account without his permission to get his money back but get the virtual item that he had already received. And that he most likely had done this to others.

paypal can track through proxies. Also i've won my past disputes by selling to people that provide picture id that match the name on their paypal name.
So if the paypal name says he's Scamming Fag, then get a id that says his name is Scamming Fag, if he cant provide it dont sell. Also save the pictures incase he tries to dispute( ive had people try, having picture id is 100% win)

Worst-case scenario, he stole the paypal and used it to pay you. However, if it took 2 days for disputes to occur, it's unlikely that's what happened. Most stolen paypal disputes occur within 24 hours or less.

Paypal's pretty good about disputes for the most part, I'd say that most of the time, they're fair

Unauthorized payments are a complete diceroll. Do you know how he funded it?

Balance? Bank? Instant transfer? Credit card?

    Is he verified? unverified?

I'm going to guess you are going to lose it though, be forewarned.

Edit: screenshot the 10 disputes and screenshot the details of one of the held transactions.

I'll be able to give you a better indication on if you are going to win after seeing those.

TheNewbie - also do you have Personal, Business, or Premier account? Knowing which can also help sway your outcome one way or another.

    ^ Makes no difference.

    This is how you stand:
    1. Unfortunately, he paid with the paypal mobile application. I had someone pay me with that, the first time I'd ever seen it, for over $600 over four transactions. I lost all four disputes.

    2. Unfortunately, he paid you over a period of 10 transactions. That likely means he is going to claim a stolen paypal rather than an unauthorized transaction, which means if he is somehow able to prove it then you are definitely out of luck.

    3. Unfortunately, you have no seller protection as you are selling items that don't exist. This means that the outcome depends SOLELY on the buyer's PayPal history. Your history is completely irrelevant and the note is included in that.

    4. There is nothing you can do but hope; however, if it goes on longer I will warn you that you will probably lose it. Most of the ones I win are over in 1-2 days whereas the ones I lose go on for a week or more.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions, there is nothing you can do and my best advice to you would be to not respond to anything and give it a week before escalating it to a claim. If you did respond then that's not ideal but nothing to do about it at this time.
