Okay, your main problem here is going to be RAM, though processor speed may hinder you a little too. With only 1 gig of RAM you should be able to run one bot, but if you need to use your laptop for anything but running the bot, then your comp speed is going to eat shit. The same goes with the processor because the 1.66 GHz Atom (which I believe is single core?) will have a lot of problems running more than one bot, or running a bot and doing anything else. the 16 hours a day thing shouldn't matter, technically it could 24 and the specs wouldn't need to change.

For what makes the best kind of laptop, you want a really fast, multi-core processor (duo or higher) and at least 4 gb of RAM for running more than one or two bots. Graphics cards don't really matter.

I was really only planning on just running one bot and leaving it be, but maybe i should keep shopping around for something more along the lines of what you suggested.

Also, when you continuously run a bot a computer, does it run down the system?

Multi cores can handle a bot + other tasks fine. But if you get a single core, the only thing you'd be able to do is bot.. lol

What do you look for in a computer for bots?

What I mean is, like if I was to run a bot straight for a year (hypothetically), would my computer crash?

i don't think so. botting isnt demanding, unless you run more then one. I suggest you to get a laptop with 4gb of ram.. thats the standard for most laptops on the market right now. whats your price range? i could help you find a good laptop

Theoretically no. Computers aren't perfect, but they're designed to run consistently without stopping (though we all know they crash sometimes). The bot wouldn't crash your computer anymore than any other application would.

Right now I have ~$300 but my birthday's just around the corner and my relatives might send me some. That laptop was $290, which is probably too cheap to be good quality. I think I found a 4GB with dual-core processor for $510, I'm looking on geeks.com right now.

I'd say minimum of 2-4gb of RAM for java to have enough memory to not lag or crash. CPU speed is vital too, you'll want a quad core that can easily handle several processes, although some not-too-old dual cores should be fine too.

Graphics card really doesn't matter, just run the bots in safe mode and lowest settings, and always have them minimised. RS is a game that doesn't take up a lot of your resources if you have everything on low settings, and I'm able to play at a constant 60+ fps with just an integrated intel gpu. If you want to be playing with directx with at least medium settings, you'll need a dedicated card.

Does it have to be a netbook? You could get a better computer if its a desktop. Also what bots do you plan on running and will you ever want to run more than 1 bot?

Thanks! I'll consider between those two, they both look really good.

What do you look for in a computer for bots?

Pretty much I want it to be able to run any kind of Rsbots.net bot.
And I probably won't be running more than one at a time, at most 2.

What do you look for in a computer for bots?

If I just run one at a time, do I need to have a quad core? Or can I get by with a tri/dual core?

i only plan on running in safe mode

I have an EEE sitting at home that I bought for miscellanious tasks about a year ago and it can barely run RS due to some of its latest graphics updates....

You will be able to scrape along with that, but not very well.

For about $600 (AUD, so I guess I'd say less if you are in the US due to electronics being cheaper there), you can get a laptop with anywhere from 2 GB of RAM to 4 GB of RAM, and a fairly decent processor.

TL;DR Don't buy the EEE unless you really don't care about how well/how long you can use it for RS, as other than the battery life their specs are really shit.

I dont know how well soul wars will run on a netbook (havent used soul wars bot in a while though, never did add it to my new computer) two bots might be pushing it depending on were the bots go in the game (aka might lag some in highly populated areas.) Sadly i have never used one of these netbooks but i did have a laptop with similar specs a while back (it was old for the time i used it) and it had a hard time running soul wars and laged when using multiple bots, but then again it had vista :\
