Just read this article and it bred me some thinking.

What are your thoughts on this?

Will the world eventually become so overpopulated to the point where food would become scarce?

What do you think we, as humans, should do to combat this growing concern?

They keep making babies and have no food, and spread STD's like aids. Sounds like their problem imo...

Genetically modified food will become more prevalent.

I dont think it will be an issue, they will die as much as they reproduce and condoms are being used more in africa now and usage will rise over time.
Places like australia have millions of acres of land with nothing on it, personally id like to see it stay that way.
Either the market will meet the new ammount needed or it will fall short and nothing will change.

The world is sufficient to feed 30 billion people.

The world can feed everyone for 30 days if production was to halt now.

Studying this at A level but cba writing an essay as I do too much of that shit already.

Rofl at this entire argument. In truth, most countries are having their population downsizing. India and other countries may be growing, but at some point they will begin to fall once they become as modernized as Europe or the Americas.

The MEDC growth rates in the world are dropping, it's the poorer countries and Islam dominated countries which have uncontrollable birth rates - as soon as they develop and become educated about family planning, this will ease the problem.

If OP was smart, he wouldn't use food as the main arguement because like rsaddict said, the world can support 30 billion people, which in times of overpopulation will go way up because we'de force people to start farming.
A better scenario would be the water. Soon if we don't fix our ways, we will have used up all the water available on earth. By this I mean there won't be drinking water left. Contaminated water could be a problem by 2020. Hopefully that is just one concern our scientists have...

in;b4 Some idiot starts talking about Global Warming.

If the fate of the world was seriously predicted by Scientists concerned over our intake of food over the years. Then it will be looked into more kindly. You can't put limitations on the amount of food one might buy and even waste.

What do you think Bakeries do in down town New York at the end of the night? I can walk behind their building and find a dumpster full of baked bread. Same goes for Fast Food establishments that close for the evening.

We are the only ones to blame. Self Destruction was avoidable. I think that we advanced technologically too fast. Mass producing products that overcompensate for the demand of the people. It causes problems.

We need better means of preservation. I personally waste a lot of food and don't think about it. None of us do. People have already taken steps to allow wild life to breed and farmers moving to grow food in more fertile soil. I don't think it will be by 2050. The population would have to be much larger.

i think that remembering how past doomsday theories have failed takes away from our ability to think critically and thoughtfully about current doomsday theories.

The only one i find plausible at this moment in time is the yellowstone park volcano, scientists know it will erupt, they just dont know when.

A lot of the human population that is dying from hunger is in Africa, and it's most likely because people in Africa refuse to form a government.. I actually read about riots and protests. If those people don't get their shit together of course there will be AIDS, Hepatitis, Malaria and God knows what around them, INCLUDING HUNGER! If they are not going to try to advance somewhat, they are going to stay in place, that is why the advertisements I see on TV about those issues bother me, they need to learn to make food themselves. This quote would be a perfect example, Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”. If they had technology, this wouldn't be an issue, also BIRTH CONTROL, and some morals not to have sex 24/7, and limit it, but society likes to do the reverse, spend more money, waste time, as well as energy, when they can easily help those people out much cheaper and more efficient.

I think peak oil will be a much, much larger issue in our lifetime.

Why do poor people continue having children when they know they will be born into poverty?
