    I thought the same thing lil nigga, but had a different experience when loading creatine. My airways became more narrow, then I read online that creatine can exacerbate asthma symptoms when taken in a ‘loading phase’. (Basically high quantities per day such as 20-25g)

    I think the 20-25g per day is CRAZY. Why even take 5x the dose per day? If creatine was causing you issues, 25g a day is FOR SURE gonna cause you issues lol

    It’s a common thing to do, a loading phase it’s called. To saturate the muscles faster. I wanted to know if anyone is having a similar issue just taking the daily dosage. People without asthma will have no problem doing 25g per day, for 5-7 days

    I want to know the science behind why this is happening because like yourself I had this same view, that creatine just increases dihydrotestosterone and causes water retention, doesn’t make sense why it’s exacerbating my asthma symptoms

    Yeah but even during a loading phase, you naturally get enough creatine in your body overtime with 5g per day. You don't have to extreme load it, at most maybe 10g per day during load. Unless you are in a hurry to cycle off, but I would just stay on it personally year round imo. But you do what you want ultimately.

    The real question is for the people with asthma who are taking the daily dosage. Maybe the daily dosage will also exacerbate these symptoms if taken as a supplement, I’m just not sure at the minute

    I found some additional helpful information regarding Creatine and Asthma.


    Creatine (Cr) is a substrate for adenosine triphosphate synthesis, and it is the most used dietary supplement among professional and recreative athletes and sportsmen. Creatine supplementation may increase allergic airway response, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms are unknown. We used murine model of OVA-induced chronic asthma and showed that Cr supplementation increased total proteins, ATP level, lymphocytes, macrophages, and IL-5 levels in BALF, as well as IL-5 in the supernatant of re-stimulated mediastinal lymph nodes. IL-5 and IL-13 expression by epithelial cells and by peribronchial leukocytes were increased by Cr. Cr augmented the expression of P2 × 7 receptor by peribronchial leukocytes and by epithelial cells, and increased the accumulation of eosinophils in peribronchial space and of collagen fibers in airway wall.


    It appears the creatine supplementation creates an increase in accumulation in white blood cells, aswell as collagen fibers in small airway passages. It also mentions increased allergic reaction in airway responses.

    Yes it appears it's supplementation as a entirety. Supplementation of Creatine may not be safe with Asthma. You could search other alternatives, maybe the Hydrochloride form creates less symptoms than traditional Monohydrate, but I highly doubt it makes a difference.

    Fuck man, I figured tbh because after 25g per day, yes breathing became difficult. But now I'm taking just 3g a day, I'm getting less symptoms but it's still to some degree affecting me. I might give it a decent break to fully recover from this 25g I took for 2 days straight.

    To be fair I only did 2 days, then when the asthma stuff kicked in I stopped. How much were you loading per day?

    20g a day in 4 increments. morning, lunch, after workout, after dinner. i've been on and off and in the long run, i just maintain 5g a day. I dont bother with the loading stuff anymore. it'll saturate when it saturates
