Phishing warning

should have added to beware of email phishers as well, as they have been dramatically increasing in the past few weeks:

I agree, it couldn't hurt to inform people about it so they don't get phished.

I've made an announcement in the RS section about it. It seems to be spreading again. :\

 

Not sure if this would be possible, But could we do a process where mods have to accept links before they can be posted?

Not sure if that would work just a suggestion.

 

There have been several suggestions as to how to reduce the phishing problem. None of the high-ups seem to want to moderate the specific posting of embedded links. As it is now, just click with caution on everything. :\

 

I suppose as soon as a user reports the problem its solved anyways

 

I've already had 1 email phish attempt on me. I'm sure I'll see more in the future as well.

 

Its just ridiculous the amount of people that have nothing better to do then try to phish innocent people... I guess we'll just have to put up with it >_<

 

Phishers are being caught and IP banned as quickly as possible. Although there are not always RS mods around to remove phishing links that have been posted, I usually ban them on sight.

Always be cautious of clicking any links, especially if the person has below 10 posts, that should be a dead giveaway.

 

Kind of sad that people, who are aware enough to find a cheating site like sythe, are actually falling for phishers

 

Isnt phishing other people for any information illegal? I'm pretty sure it's not legal to phish people, and it can get one thrown in jail or fined heavily.

Why do people do this.. It's so fked up. My mate fell for this by clicking something in his email and lost all of his paypal money + his gp on RS. He's now filing a case against it. :/ People are such desprite shits.

 

Don't know if stealing rs accounts gp is a crime at all, since Jagex owns it all and you aren't stealing anything from them.

Most of them probably aren't desperate, probably just making easy money on the side from people's stupidity

 

this isn't just about phishing links on sythe, it would also be to aware people of phishers outside sythe (email)

 

and yes, stealing runescape accounts is a crime. The account is property of jagex so stealing it makes it a crime. Jagex just lets people use their accounts on their game.

Your not stealing from Jagex, Jagex are in charge of accounts at all times. You're stealing from a player that doesn't own the account/mills, so no theft has taken place
