What's the proper name for someone answering a question, with a question? I seem to think there's one; I'm not sure

    Thanks in advance.

("There are questions that should be answered with a counter-question." ~Buddha)

    Socratic Teaching or Critical Thinking.

You might be thinking of rhetorical questions, were no answer is expected. :)

No, I guess I should elaborate. An answer was expected. It was kind of used as an avoidance tactic.

I asked my cousin when's the last time I showed a sign of being a sore loser (after he was whining he lost) and he responded with, "When's the last time I showed the signs of a sore loser?"

It may be just known as diverting the question. Thanks for the UD link! I had quite the laugh.

No i know what you are thinking of 0wn, our schools old history teacher always taught kids by answering a question with another question, eventually letting the student reach a conclusion on his own. I will try to remember, but I know my philosophy teacher told me it once >.<

Socrates is the most annoying fuck ever and does this constantly. I do not know if there is a word for this, but in most cases it the either the person deflecting or trying to make a point.

Plato puts Socrates in many of his writings, which is what I was referring to.
