well in my country we have conscription that applies to women as well.

    it works like this:

women CAN apply to stuff like pilot courses or Naval officers, the rule is if you qualify you can go there: but must meet the same standards as males; in reality female pilots are one in a thousand

now when it comes to regular infantry, armoured corps, or even special forces: NOPE

there is 1 infantry brigade which is mixed and is tasked to guard a peacetime border ONLY, and women can also serve in the border police.

in my opinion i dont think women are cut out for some of the more physically demanding combat duties, let alone hygienic conditions that most women are simply unable to cope

and of course you can find a brutish 6.6' 500 lbs woman to prove me wrong but thats only the exception and its one in a million.

I think the original reason women not being able to serve in the army is because if a women falls and is injured, a males instinct is to help... this is putting the team and the objective at risk according to the military. That is the actual reason here in the UK! Also maternity leave would be hard for somebody who is about to be on duty.

Women do have jobs within the military, just not frontline!

I think about this also because as men or at least some of us tend to have a soft clouded judgement when it comes to harm coming their way. They will be raped and tortured without a second thought because why wouldn't they? We are putting them out there because they want to be there.
As i stated before yes it does happen to men but women and children are of a lot of concern to most citizens and once they need help we rush to their aid. I know a lot of females who would love to be on the front line but a job can be done by anyone doesn't mean it's fit for everyone.

    ABSOLUTELY!
I can agree that women may give off that special type of vibe that make men act a little different, but to contradict that; We are talking about our armed forces here. The men & women that are serving for this country, are signing 4 years at minimum of their life away to the USA. I don't think they are going to be screwing around, and getting pregnant and what not. I believe the people there are mature enough to know right from wrong.

Women currently take 50 percent of all BA degree's in Engineering, and science. We need those people on our crew. Women offer a different form of intelligence than men -Contrary to popular belief-
Woman have inscreased out power greatly...
Women also make up 15 Percent of the Active duty Navy today.

I don't think it's a wrong move to let women help us out in any case. It's just as much their country, as it is ours.

If they are willing to do so, then let them, its wrong to deny woman the same rights that men have

I don't see a big deal with women being a soldier, or whatever else you mean by combat, as long as it is at their own will. No women should ever be forced to fight in a war or anything, because we need more women than men.

Men being in the presence of women in a combat situation can be very dangerous, mainly due to the fact that men have a natural instinct to protect women over other things. For example, a women is under fire: The male soldier would (in most circumstances) try his hardest to protect the women - even if it put a mission in jeopordy. This is just brief example as there are other reasons such as pregnancy problems, physical fitness standards and morale. There are also issues with men unwillingly answering to female authority on the battlefield.

All of the above points could be argued in much more detail.

I think women should be able to... They signed themselves up for it, they know what they're getting themselves into. Terrible things happen to the men at war, but they also do mazing things. Women can be the same way. In my opinion the death of a woman is no worse than the death of a man. Why? We are all human, all equal, no matter which gender.

There are still separate men and women leagues in sports, so we obviously recognize that there is a difference. When I see our schools JV teams (like in hockey) play our girls varsity, we absolutely kill them! We are not allowed to hit them either, so that tells you something right there... Not to mention our JV hockey team is pretty bad, so there is obviously a difference no matter what women try to do to erase the gender gap. Sorry if I appear to be anti-feminist, but I'm just saying they are on average not in the same league as men...sorry

It's sexism not to let them do so.. what if men weren't able to play video games? Life would be done, there would be no reproduction of humanity.

@Xeox I have to admit, when watching sports, women basketball/soccer etc. etc. is incomparable to men's.

Yea I will agree that some women can get the job done in combat; to be honest I think if they can make the cut they should be allowed to join, but I think there are few women who can push themselves to that level (or sometimes even further).

No, because for male troops I think they'd only serve as a distraction. Also, I'm a firm believer males are far more suited for combat. Women, for the most part, are emotional, impulsive, and to be honest I believe are inferior as any sort of combatant. For the most part.

Women are undeniably physically inferior (just compare weightlifting records, triathlon times, sports leagues etc.) and are also more emotional and less logical, so I think the majority of women would not work as good soldiers. However if they want to be a soldier, and can meet the same criteria that is necessary for men, I think it should be allowed.

It's upto them, they should be given a choice. I wouldn't ever recommend it though, physically and emotionally speaking, men are stronger and thus more suited to serving combat than women.

Can't remember where I read it, but one of the problems is; women can be a distraction to men on the battlefield. Countries have in the past apparently tried this, and they find the men become protective of the women, which doesn't help your army.

I don't think they should serve in combat... women can't throw/catch.

Imagine them trying to use a hand grenade o_O

In all seriousness, sure why not.. send them all in, but not the hot ones.

Edit: Intellectual discussion - No, I don't think women should serve in combat. In this age of equality, it would seem right to allow women to become soldiers. The thing is though, men and women are not the same.. they're wired differently, you just have to look at the animal kingdom, the role of females and males.

Also, Sith.. you mentioned that some women are not as emotional because of the way they are brought up. But it's actually the hormone Estrogen which makes them emotional.. this also affects mood.. which explains why women are so crazy.

Also, Testosterone in men affects strength, muscle growth etc = a better candidate for being a soldier.

Of couse, governments will use what resources they have and this is why you're seeing women in the military!

I won't dispute the fact that women can be "hardened" to fulfill such roles, but such is a pity and takes away all that constitutes feminity.

I can't quite agree on that, as it all comes down to how they were brought up. I know a women who can think as straightly and objectively as I can, although if you apply this to the vast majority, I must agree.

With this I am on absolutely equal terms. I believe there is no valid counter-argument against this. Well put.

If there is room, sure why not. If there is a limited amount of spots I believe the stronger people should have priority (and in most cases that is men.) If a woman proves to be stronger then a man in a certain field she should qualify. Not being sexist, but it's best to have the strongest serving our country.

If a woman wants to, and has equal capability to a man, then of course she should be allowed to. Should women be conscripted? That is another question which no one can answer on behalf of another.
