Is The PC A Dying Platform?

Ever sit back on your Smartphone and just surf the web? Play some games? Read an E-mail? We know you have, and so does the IDC. Showing off the figures for the fourth quarter of last year, the IDC (International Data Corporation) recorded that Smartphones have shipped in the quantity of just over 100 million units across all platforms at the time. This figure is a staggering 87.2% higher than the same market sales the prior year in the fourth quarter. Comparatively speaking, PC sales dropped, likely out of the average user loosing their everyday requirement for the computing format. Statistically, the PC industry could only push 92 million units during the period, which stands to question – Is this the Mobile Revolution? Sure it is.

No. Smartphones and ipads realistically, are only good for browsing the web/reading emails.

Do you expect full fledged games to be played on a phone? Or software development to be done on an iPad?

Give me a break. Either this thread is a troll and you got me, or you are high as fuck.

I wouldn't say it's the end of the PC's popularity. Phones just tent to break more often thus resulting in people buying them more often. Sure they are getting better and more advanced, but I think we have a while until anything smaller than a dvd case will be as powerful as a desktop pc.

@blindkilla - You really think with games like Angry Birds moving millions and millions of units, as well as real and competitive games like Gun Bros, or MMO games like Pocket Legends that the mobile platform isn't just as viable as a PC? Sure, you're not using it for MS Office, but why couldn't you? The Atrix from Motorola has an adaption to transform it to a full netbook, while the phone itself does all the computing work.

This. A lot of console faggots said that PC's gonna die in a few years, but we all know it's not. I don't know how the hell they enjoy FPS with a controller.

No because when smartphones start getting even stronger PC's will be getting ten fold stronger.
Consoles however will die out in the next few generations most likely.
PC's are catching up and will eventually outpace game development, so
getting a gaming rig won't cost as much as it does now.

PC will always be around. Smartphones and everything else you listed were created for an easy, accesible portable device to use when you aren't around a PC. They are also a relatively new thing that people are constantly upgrading to get the newest model, while PCs are generally rinsed and repaired not as often.

By pc the op meant quite literally a personal computer; not a computer running windows.

Honestly, within 10-15 years I think tablets and smartphones will be used as most peoples primary day to day device, similar to what a laptop might be now. I don't however think they'll be efficient enough to handle most work related things, and larger tasks.

Angry birds is just something people buy for the fuck of it. As with all iPad apps (with some exceptions). It's just a gimmick, people are like "oh this game is cool, let's all buy it". PCs will always be a head of phones in computing power. People use iPads to dick around on and they use PCs to do real work and play real games.
