Item Sniping

Recently I've been trying to snipe expensive items from the GE but I have not succeeded in doing so.

Are there any tips for item sniping, or is it 100% luck?

Which items are best to snipe, and at what price?

sniping doesn't work all to well anymore since there is no max limit to what you are buying

There is no need for sniping anymore, its dead.

Before, you couldnt just sell your Phat for street because of the trade limits. Forcing people to sell it on the GE in rare cases. Now, you can do that; hence sniping is dead.

Does anyone know for sure if earlier offers trump higher offer prices? I have to think if you are offering a higher price in the GE, when the item becomes available you will get it before the person with the earlier offer. The reason sniping worked before is because there was a limit, meaning the only factor in who got the item was the order the offers were submitted. I'm also fairly certain quest points have an effect on who items go to in non-sniping situations; using multiple accounts to do buyouts I noticed this pattern.
