    [Unofficial] Ask an Egyptian thread.

    Hi,

There are millions of protests in Egypt at the moment. I think many people have questions out there. As I'm in the action I'm ready to answer!

My name is Ramy, I live few kilometers away from Tahrir square in Cairo. I've went to a protest last Wednesday. I think I can answer all of your questions.

You can follow me on Twitte*: Ramy_Egy.

    Thanks.

To some degree I think people are joining in on the protests just for the fun of it, and its no longer about the corruption of government. Would you agree?

Did you go for the protest or for your country?

    Yes, and No!
Most of the protesters are out now so as to make the president resign, but there are some people are there to join there first protest.. as protests were rare in Egypt.
The protesters want the country be better so they can't be against the country.. 8 millions of 80 millions were out to as Mubarak resignation. Excluding the babies, kids, and oldies.. that's really much!
Yes, I've went to a protest at tahrir square without my parents know, it was my first protest in my life.

Obviously, the past week has been anything but the norm. Would you describe the current situation as "controlled", or is it full blown pandemonium?

    Awesome thread, thanks!

Are you pro-Mubarak or anti? Do you know anything about Israel and Iran's stand on this, and do you have an opinion on whether, if the riots come to an all out battle, if Israel and Iran will join the fight against each other?

Thanks for this, I've been pretty damn curious. My cousin has an aunt who's in Cairo, but she won't be home for another two weeks, so I can't question her yet:[

    No problem :)

    Anti.
I think that Egypt is the most important power in the middle east (please notice that I didn't say the more powerful). If any of Israel or Iran could win it as an ally it would dominate the whole middle east. I could say that Iran is assisting Muslims Brotherhood, and Israel is assisting Mubarak.
The protests started by the youth throughout social networks, but there are many parties trying to jump over the revolution.

She shall be safe, don't worry. It is much more safer now.

The current situation is neither controlled nor full blown pandemonium. Most of that "full blown pandemonium" was due to the gangs which have been paid by the government or the government allies to make chaos in the society so as to make the people feel how the government was. The average Egyptian is extremely peaceful. Currently the government police forces are so weak, and many police stations have been fired, and collapsed. People managed to make defending groups in every street so as to avoid any gangs entrance. In my neighborhood for example, we've captured like 10 people (2, or 3 in each time) with automatic machines! We gave them to the army at the end. The society is not controlled by the government, the people and the army control the situation now.

Ok, that is good. I knew that the pro-Mubarak gangs were responsible for most of the looting and violence. You and the rest of the anti-Mubarak protesters should be proud of how peaceful you have kept things. It is inspiring to the rest of the world.

What do you think the USA should be doing about this then? If Israel and Iran combat, I think I can accurately say that we'll assist Israel..

Who would be next to take power in Egypt?

What will happen to the Vice president who was appointed by Mubarak?

Oh and holy shit, what JohnK said... how do you have internet?

Did a protester really hijack a tank? I've been told one of them did.

After a new government has been in charge, it wanted to have a better image in the eyes of the protesters. Plus, all of the Egyptians have known about the protests places and times due to T.V. channels without needing internet. Hence it unblocked the internet, cell phones, and sms services.

    No, at all.

LOL! How could he hijack a tank?! This is not true..

Government, or Government allies paid these riots. They are poor people. 10$ is enough to make him spend a day attacking anti-Mubarak. They are very dangerous as they don't know what is morality. If they killed someone, it's not a big deal. Being poor can make all of that, believe me.

Please note that being poor here in Egypt means having money for today's food, but for tomorrow .. No! In the U.S. being poor is living in a humble home, comparing this to that.. You don't know what is being really REALLY poor!
