Create some sort of staff verification for UPGRADES section.

Since the introduction of free trad, there has been an unbelievable amount of scamming going on in this section.

There should be subforums of unverified and verified sections.

I've been scammed by three seperate people(I didn't screenshot, because I paid in RSGP and it isn't a big deal to me, as I have a total net worth of well over 700M on all of my rs accounts, but could easily effect somebody of a lower stature.)
Almost half of the thread on the front page of the upgrades sections has multiple people claiming scams, and it is simply because little kids want free RS gp. It's incredibly sad, but it needs to be dealt with.

PLEASE, AT LEAST have a moderator dedicated to the section so they can oversee the actions happening, it's unbelievable how many people are getting taken advantage of.

Discuss thoughts, If needed I'll pick through the section and post links to threads with people saying they've been scammed.

 

I don't know if this is a good solution, but I do agree that the upgrade situation is very bad now. Giving out the password to an account is now extremely risky. However, the rule that has always applied is just now even more important: only trade with a person you feel trusted. Time and time again people suggest ways of having staff decide who is trusted and who is not, but ultimately that means nothing. It's up to you to decide who you are willing to trust.

 

Anybody who posts a PIN thread simply has them deleted from now on I am getting tired of it.

Just trade trusted sellers, simple as that.

They can become trusted doing other things that have much less risk. Upgrades, skilling, questing, or anything else nowadays that requires an account password are now inherently some of the riskiest trades on Sythe.

 

Meh. I really don't like the new membership "system". You are basically giving someone near complete access to your account for a whole 5 minutes. A lot can be accomplished in these 5 minutes such as:

- cleaning out your bank (transfer or drop)
- changing the password
- pretending to be "applying the upgrade"
- ect

The only real reason why a seller needs to go on your account would be to protect his phone number. I guess I understand why a seller would want his phone # to be confidential... but then again some people have a lot to loose.

But anyway... Jagex also changed the Surfpin prices so... oh well

 

Actually, 99% of the PINs that are applied are more than likely illegally obtained. If Sythe allowed people to sell the PINs directly, Sythe is legally liable for stolen goods trafficking. This way, Sythe is only supporting the upgrade--they are not affiliated with the way the PIN is obtained at all.

You can apply any PIN with a bogus phone number being entered.

 

It's the same as it was before they introduced trade limit? Which was fine.. in time scammers will go down etc...

 

Free trade was introduced, so a bunch of little douchebags decided to hop on the scam wagon and get free gold.
It's really sad to scam for like 5M.. Some people are just so damn addicted lmao.

 

I don't support this as it would be way too much work. People need to be more careful and buy from people they deem trustworthy and have plenty of experience and good vouches built up. If something seems questionable, don't go through with something. I think people leave themselves vulnerable. They are just asking to be scammed because they don't do many preventative steps to not get scammed.

i agree sythe should add things like that because it helps people go towards the good guys and away from the scammers

What a professional response that was. You can't even capitalize properly, yet you think you can falsely accuse me of supporting scamming? Just because I said people need to be more responsible and follow adequate scam protection steps, that means I don't care about them? Honestly, how do you think staff are supposed to verify everything. That's just way too much work and will never happen. Buy from trusted sellers only and make sure all of your possessions are as secure as can be.

 

It isn't going to happen, just trade smart.
