    Just how random are randoms?

    This is a question I asked my self when I started grinding hard and I have an answer, or part of one. The last 25 randoms I had (in f2p only) ended up not being very random this is how much exp was gained in between each.

    (cb 93) 244k, 244k, (failed random) 80k, 80k 80k, 80k, 80k, 162k, 162k, 244k, 244k, 244k, 245k, (membership after mem ended I was at cb 97) 257k, 259k, 261k, 257k, 258k, 258k, 258k, 258k, 257k, 258k, 258k, 258k

    The test was conducted by resetting the exp counter after a random and not touching it till the next random, when a random would come up I would complete it write down how much exp was gained between them, and reset the counter.

    The results are...interesting. In members worlds its different and I don't have a big enough data mass to find any correlations. I searched and didn't find any other threads on this, has anyone else noticed? Also I would like to recruit people to help with research.

    wow this is actually really cool what you did. I have never seen someone go into detail about this. Good job

    yeah really I don't think anyone has done this before. So you get way less randoms in p2p??

    Random events have never been "random" (or at least to my knowledge). I remember standing in Varrok square with a few other people, and every 20 minutes (almost exactly) you would get a random event. And that was from nothing but standing in one spot. They've always been strategically implaced to catch botters.

    That's pretty interesting, the idea of randoms being XP based rather than timeliness. Cool.

    According to this hypothesis I would have gotten 4 randoms yesterday, but in actuality I only got two.

    It could be possible that the amount of xp between randoms is different from person to person, based on their average xp/day or something - idk.

    Nice find though, either way.

    Yeah, good discovery but I doubt the exp would be the same for each player.

    this is a cool idea, but it needs more information to really get results.

    like, the xp amounts don't really quantify the data because we don't know what the skills of the fighter were, presuming its combat. maybe the hourly rate of xp, and time in minutes between randoms should be recorded.

    what i find from watching bots is that they have a tendency to show up around every 3 hours, if you get them right. more often if you mess one up and log out or get stuck. or more often if you do something suspicious and bot like, or break some long action to do something else. if a bot screws up a lot, and starts getting lots of randoms i'll babysit for a while and do randoms by hand. this worked on one character so far who got to 99 wc, and is back to getting the randoms ever 3 hrs or so.

    It would have to be proportionate to your level. What level were you at the time?

    my cb was 93 when I started recording, I did members for a bit and when I came back to f2p was at 97, this seemed to correspond to a rise in the exp difference of 244k and after the mem 258k

    yes, I don't have a lot of data collected, it was both botted and non-botted
    the first bit was magic, the second is mostly cooking, but it seems that when I take a break and train other things it still ends at the same amount of exp

    I am guessing it goes by cb, or total level, and although I do admit that I don't have a lot of data on this I think that some form of relationship can be seen

    this was all in f2p, in p2p I have no idea, they ranged from about 880k to 300k even in chunks that were botted

    please try it your self, it doesn't take much time and would be great to lean more about, relavent info would be; the amount of exp, cb level, total level, and what was being trained.

    I think there are multiple causes to them but there by no means random. I remember way back at fleshcrawlers I would force randoms by picking up the bones there and burying them. For some reason if you were in constant combat for awhile then switched to something else it gave a random every time without fail as soon as I buried the bones.

    Also, the xp-based makes alot of sense. My rs twin was getting 99 firemaking. When he was 98 he bought magic logs and put on firemaking brawlers to get the last mass of xp super fast to get the cape. We got a bunch of our pking clan together to be in the vid and to just mess around, and he got 3 randoms within a 20 minute span of time. With magic logs and brawlers his xp/inventory was ridiculous, so thats the only thing I can think caused the increase in random frequency.

    Also, I used to kill flax-picking bots by putting a cat over the flax, they would stop and just stand there and never start picking again. After about 2-3 minutes they would always get a random event, and at this time most were the ones that if you didn't answer you got attacked and eventually killed.

    With all of these occasions, I doubt randoms are really ever random, something in the system tells it that a certain player needs to be checked to ensure he/she is capable of solving a random and therefore (in the eyes of jagex anyways) is not using third party software, although most of the newer paid bots with full random-solving would probably beg to differ, LOL.

    I remember the bones thingy. I'm pretty sure it was sort of a bug & fixed later.

    Pretty sure it has to do with exp, when i was going for 99 dungeoneering it seemed like I got a random everytime I walked out of the random free area (Bank and Waiting room), but only if I had gained 200k dungeoneering exp. Same went for training a skill for a while at soul wars bank.
