Should women serve in combat?

If you're so concerned about team-work and both sexes not thinking the same way, why not make squads with only females? There are a few 'hard' females out there who can take and execute orders just as well as a man could, perhaps they will fit the role of a leader? Or maybe put them in squads where the members aren't forty year old pervs.

As for me, I would not be distracted by women in battle. I've gained self control long ago, and to be honest, I'd rather fight for my survival than watch someone's ass in my dying moments.

 

That'd be the biggest problem of them all - and it's not even the big of a problem. When female soldiers are dressed up in all of their combat gear, helmet, sunglasses, you can usually barely even tell what sex they are.

 

The men don't have to be pervs to have them be distracted by women, they could be extra protective when it comes to women and could therefore change their behavior when fighting next to a woman. Anyway, if you guys want to see the points I made, read the paper I posted a link to in the OP. I want to know whether you agree or disagree with the points there too.

About splitting up men and women, they've already discussed splitting up gays and straights (they being whoever repealed the "don't ask, don't tell" ordinance where they can kick out a gay man from the military) and deemed it a complete nightmare to give them things like separate bathrooms, housings, and squads... if two different kinds of men can't logically be split up, I don't think they can do the same for women and men with any more ease.

 

I think women should be able to serve in the army. if not, it further supports the lingering wrath of inequality.

 

Today, most fighting is done through machinery or other technology which does not require extreme physical strength. Therefore, women should be allowed to fight in combat units. Additionally, the US needs more people to join the military, and allowing women to be more prominent in combat roles will hopefully allow more people to join the military.

However, in units where superior physical strength is a requirement, men and women should have the same joining requirements. (I.E. same run times, sit-ups in a minute, pull ups, etc). I don't care if women think it's sexist, we want those units to be as proficient as possible. It isn't the Army's fault women have less muscle than men.

 

Women are genetically weaker then men. But, if there is a women who is adequately strong, and skilled she should be able to fight in combat.

Women should be subject to drafts. Their positions should be non-combat. It's only fair.

 

If women are the only people that are stepping forward to hold a position, then let them. But as far as having a woman dragging a 6'5", 250lb wounded soldier across a battlefield goes, I think I'll decline that offer

 

I don't know, there's no doubt that some women are as strong as men.

For example, I think this woman is quite capable.


It's not a woman's physique that has me reluctant to allow them to join in direct combat, but their mentality, and the way the men around her will react. Also, how do you think America would react should thousands of women be shipped back home in body bags? Maybe not as drastically after a few thousand of them die, but it would certainly be a reason for heightened nationalism and emotions. After the over-reaction of 9/11, MORE protective nationalism is not something we need.

 

Please back your claims up with some reasoning. You cannot just say men are stronger then women.

 

Prove to me that 100% of women cant drag that guy.

 

The only reason that they could keep women out is with the argument that they are trying to avoid having any sort of sexual (thoughts?) happening during war. Now that don't-ask-don't-tell is gone, I think women SHOULD be allowed (but not forced, as men sometimes are) to serve in combat.

 

Men aren't forced to be in combat, just for your information, at least not in the USA. Anyway, sexual relations isn't what's how me worried when it comes to mixing men and women in combat. It's team cohesiveness that would be impaired

 

Why not? I know a few of female marines that are on deployment in IRQ... they are equal to men. hell some of the female marines/army are stronger than the males... Men=Women both equal.

Can you prove this statement beyond the obvious? Sure women can be strong, but they absolutely do not equal men. That is to say, neither is higher than the other, but neither are the same. And that's a huge problem when they need to work together in life-or-death situations

 

Yes, they should be able to, but they should be treating the same way guys are treated.

 

If they want to then yes but like stated before they should be treated like the men are.

 

Its a commonly known scientific fact that men on average are stronger then women, they have more body muscle and women have more petite figures compared to men.

This is generally why its deemed wrong for a man to hit a women as they are normally not muscular/strong enough to defend themselves

Though i think women should be allowed to serve in combat aslong as they are physically and mentally fit... the same as a male serving in combat should be.

 

As long as they meet the same requirements men do sure.

 

Women serve in the army, just not in combat...most women in the army engage in sexual intercourse with other soldiers/recruits.... It really wouldn't make a difference.
