Greek Mythology:

The beginning of times is described in 'Theogonia', a work by Hesiodus. Here's what I know:

In the beginning, there was only Chaos. Chaos was great nothingness. Then Gaia was born out of nothing, and gave birth to Ouranos. Ouranos then fertilized his own mother, and she gave birth to the twelve titans and 3 Cyclopes and some Hunderd-handed giants. (I don't remember their names, I know there are 6 female and 6 male Titans though). Ouranos hated his own children, so he tried to killed them/bannished them to the Abyss. Gaia didn't want this to happen and convinced one of her sons to kill him. It was Kronos who castrated his father and from the blood of Ouranos the giants were born. After Kronos freed his brothers and sisters, he married his sister Rhea. She beared 5 children (Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hades, Hestia and Zeus). Because Kronos feared that his children would take his place he ate them immediately when they were born. Rhea managed to replace Zeus with a stone, so Zeus survived. Zeus later made Kronos vomit, and Hades, Demeter, Poseidon, Hestia and Hera came out. (Alive!) Zeus challenged Kronos to fight him, and with the help of the titans (they helped him because he freed them from the Abyss) he finally defeated Kronos and sent him to the Abyss.
