What made Jagex come to their senses?

I'm so confused, the dec 11 update was the reason I quit and suddenly they decide to have a vote to bring it back. What made them change their mind? Did they loose so many members that they just had to give in?

What made Jagex come to their senses?

They were probably looking at their future .. They were losing players, slowly but surely. The game also actually got worse and worse every update.

    coffe please Newcomer

What made Jagex come to their senses?

    It's very simple.

    Reason 1: Advertisement

    They lost lots of players.

Explanation how can they lose money from f2p players:

F2p players makes money from advertisement. From collected money they host f2p servers. And some % they put in their pockets.

    Reason 2: New Updates

New updates and graphics, costs more and more money. But they don't gain players. IMO I don't like these new items. It's too many of them! Example: Bandos kiteshield... Wtf? Rune kiteshield with some picture... I'm not intrested do you?
Maybe new skills should gain players. There are lots of players who maxed skills and experience too :)

    Reason 3: Private servers

There are like 5000 of different private servers. Lots of players play there cause of old school pking. Average server has ~10 ppl online. It's ~50k ppl. Imagine if these players buy members on runescape for 5$ month. Yeah its possible that jagex already losing 250k / month from them!

I don't know exact numbers but I told you as example.

Reason 4: Real World Item trading

I don't know exactly but it is only my opinion.
I'm not saying that they doing it for real i'm just saying.

How advertisements did you saw? CHEAP RUNESCAPE MILLS etc... The company who sells game money for real cash. They also sell runescape mills. I think jagex has right to close down these sites because runescape items are jagex property. But these companies are still alive. I think jagex gain some % from them.
If it's true they lost many money again since they closed free trade.
    I'm just saying.

What made Jagex come to their senses?

I've always wondered this too. I'm pretty sure i've seen a few rsbot adverts on the runescape website before; doesn't this make them hypocritic?

    Death threats at runefest

Nah, obviously all routed around money and the decline in players every and each update they release.

What made Jagex come to their senses?

Reason 5 - Delayed Steller Dawn

Their new game is gobbling up money. This assumption is made since it is supposed to come out last year as Mechscape. They then changed theme and hence major parts of game to a sci-fi game. This whole development + RS updates without gaining much new players means loss of profits.

Plus, bots or not, we paid membership when botting. Back in the days I alone used to bot 20 accounts at once in P2P. They sure lost that kind of money.

What made Jagex come to their senses?

I reckon they could see the downfall of there game, everyplayer pre-2007 new Runescape was past its best ... and it still is and always will be.

Plus they could see the game slowly dieng out and wanted to come back with a bang.

What made Jagex come to their senses?

I doubt we'll ever know a concrete reason as to why Jagex brought back the wild and free trade. Perhaps they think they have advanced enough systems to stop botting and RWTing (like they somewhat said).

Secondly, off topic, but it's LOSE, NOT LOOSE. Sorry, but it's incredibly annoying at how many people have done that in this thread alone already.

What made Jagex come to their senses?

coffe please has a good example at the bottom of his post. About jagex making a % from "gold4rs" and all the others.

But I do believe it's just for the money.
They aren't losing 1k players a day, etc.
As you can tell from the FT vote, there is only 1.3m active users.
They may be losing like 10-50 a day.

    BUT

Back in 07, there was like 75k-100k players on when I would log in, middle of the day pacific time. Now there is 150k players, middle of the day pacific time.
So that doesn't make any sense to me :/
