    RuneScape Item scamming

Do you not understand what a lure is?

When you lure somebody, you general say you're going to do a trade with them but trick them into coming into the wilderness and getting their item without giving them yours.

On sythe a scammer goes up to somebody and tells them they want to trade, the scammer convinces the other person to go first, the scammer then gets the persons item without giving them the promised items in return.

Tell me how exactly these situations are different?

It seems the only reason luring isn't a bannable offense is because we'd lose a lot of our user base. I think it'd be reasonable to ask for it's discussion, pictures, videos etc. to not be allowed. Anyone else agree?

    Why? It's a fun in-game activity.

Someone could say the same thing about scamming but that doesn't make it right.

agreed. to me luring is the same as scamming, both take someones long hard earned items/cash without paying them.

What does in-game and the fact that it's "fun" have to do with anything?
    1. Off-site actions (e.g. phising) are bannable here.
    2. Luring is deceptive and misuses one's trust in order to steal his or her items. The bottom line is that it's a form of off-site scamming.

This has been debated throughly by the staff on a couple of occasions now. And while item scamming is a bannable offence, luring isn't. I don't really see how using the game mechanics to obtain some items is worth losing your Sythe account. If you play a Shoot-em-up game and shoot your teammate in the back of the head to win the game, we're not going to ban your Sythe account for that.

I like that you brought up that example. A few years ago everyone on Sythe endorsed account recovering, luring, duel "cheats", etc. Now all of these things have been slowly being taken away due to their inherent "wrongness". I feel like the site as a whole, and particularly the staff, has forgotten the original purpose of the site. Sythe was created to be a Runescape cheating site and although it has slowly moved more towards the market, cheating is still a focus. Luring, duel glitches, in-game scamming, inactive level three name recovering, etc are all cheats for Runescape. Scamming was made a bannable offense for scamming people on Sythe for the obvious reason of protecting the user base. I highly doubt that the ethical issues with scamming played any role in the thought to make it against the rules. However more and more the staff are creating rules that are based on right versus wrong, your character, etc. The whole uproar about allowing luring is not because people dislike it, it is because it goes against the current mindset of the Sythe community and the staff. A double standard has been formed by going against the status quo and this is a problem. This is the time to either go ahead and allow the user base to shamelessly take advantage of games in any way in order to gain an advantage or to do away with a large majority of what cheating pertains to and move even more completely towards a market site.

you can't use that as a example, shooting a team mate in the back of the head on lets say COD, your not going to loose much, yet if you lure and kill a friend or player in runescape, they will loose what ever items they have. its decieptful.

just like me making a buying thread saying " Buying blue phat $700 "
having the seller go 1st, then showing him the fine print at the bottom of my thread. " Buying blue phat $700, but i will be paying that $700 off at $0.50 per week until its paid for."
i would get banned for that because it would be classed as scamming, and is decieptful.

luring is the same thing, they trick another player into following them to trade them or meeting them somewhere and then they take their hard earned items.

Honestly, I don't see what debating this is going to do. It comes down to what you believe is morally right. I don't like luring but I see it as part of the game. There will always be members against it and members for it.

I am not against it but at the same how can't you be against it if item scamming is against the rules.

Oh my god. Could not have said it better.
This is a cheating site, and yet you're going against the biggest cheat of the game?
    Like an oxymoron.

Ingame luring isn't allowed. But they have said that they are leanient towards the subject.. They said luring is part of the game, after all you're using youre intelligence to think of a way to get the person to come in the wilderness, a zone which they know isnt safe, if they go in then its at their own risk.

I'm certain in-game luring is allowed here..hence why this thread was made, all the threads about luring aren't locked, and those discussing it aren't penalized.
