My Guide Sale Thread

You are mistaken in the fact that you own the guide. You do not. He made his own guide.

 

Technically wouldn't it be against the Sherman act to have a monopoly? But sense everyone on this website who plays Runescape is violating the copyright, and terms and conditions of Runescape, who cares right? OT, Who cares if they have the same guide. R2Pleasent's thread shouldn't have been closed. You cannot prove who figured it out, even though R2 has been here much longer, and has been a mod, he probably knew about it before. This shouldn't be this difficult. Stop acting like fools.

 

Still, some people may buy a copy of the guide and then sell a changed version.
You have to be sketch about things like that etc.

For certain things though, like real life profit guides, transfer methods, merchanting guides, that's to broad of a thing to close down to a single sale, because many people know many of the methods and would like to profit off them .

 

Real life profit guides will be moved where they should have gone since day 1, to other sales.

Transfer method guides hopefully will become non-existent Feb 1.

We will be careful on multiple users selling the same guide.

Viou said 'Hey, I am going to sell my transfer method before free trade' then a few days later R2P said the same thing. Same method, bad verification, guide sale control always fails.

 

the whole point is, you should have made a suggestion about this BEFORE selling someone elses guide..
I still think ALL rules should apply to EVERYONE.

 

Its not Viou's guide and he doesn't own it. You missed that. He didn't invent it.

It is completely unrealistic for the staff to try and identify the origin of knowledge.

This rule needs to be amended.

I think we should wait until FT to do any major reconstruction to our system though...like FireZ said, with the updates transfer methods should become non-existent.

 

I've made a draft of the new rules in the staff lounge, they need to be checked by other staff members though so we can come to a conclusive, if not substantial agreement on them. Rather than them being completely changed, they will instead be; more easily accessible and much clearer to understand.

Essentially the only fair way I see to do it is to make the rule, you are not allowed to resell a guide (or your own guide with a bought method). Even if people are selling the same method in different guides it does not matter unless one of them can prove that the other stole the guide, which is completely the responsibility of the user. Guide verifiers could notify guide sellers if another person is selling a similar guide and those users could then find proof of stealing, if there is any.

 

Re-selling of a guide will not be allowed under any pretence, regardless if a guide is found in a guide pack or if it is bought from someone else.

Unless, as I have suggested, that we create a new sticky in the Verified Section where by if the seller of the verified guide wishes to pass on ALL rights to a buyer they can claim so on the thread. Something along the lines of - I (the seller) pass on all rights of the (said) guide to the buyer (name) and in the event that I am found to be still selling the guide, I will accordingly be banned for ripping.

Right. I was just throwing the responsibility onto the users instead of the staff. If the guide works, it should be allowed to be verified and sold. Any other regulation really is pointless. Or am I missing some major ideas?

Not really all that important.

 

Transfer methods have always been a gray area. I think the rule was originally put in place to prevent people from purchasing other people's guides and attempting to resell them without permission. This is just another reminder that most rules cannot be all encompassing, and should be treated as such.

In other news, Plznate showing contempt for R2P? This is a first.

Those rules I've suggested are really just a clarification of the "un-written" rules that were already in place, if not a proper justification for them.

I don't think you can over regulate the guide section like you could with the Rsgp, accounts or even skilling section. The same ideology doesn't apply, it's not really a market place, like I you think it is. It's really a specialised market for guides only, those guides need to be treated different and must be kept be dealt with in the utmost regulation possible. There is really no competition per say between 2 guides because we are hopefully going to enforce that no 2 guides have the same mechanics. If this was available at the time of this event (the purpose for this thread) then it would have not happened, people would have read the very clear rules rather then guess at what the jurisdiction is.

It would have stopped all those copies of R2's guides that he has mentioned, where in the past several people would be selling the same method (mechanical) but with different words or way of explaining it. The end result would be the same of those guides would be the same. In my view, only 1 person should have the right to sell the guide and that's the person who gets it verified first. If they wish to sell their rights (check post above previous) they can do so in an organised fashion.

 

I think you are going completely the wrong direction on this. Increasing regulation is not the answer here. Unless it can be proved that a guide is ripped, then it should be sellable. Sure, it creates ways for certain users to abuse the system and sell other people's guides. But, it encourages the original seller to keep track of his sales and take control of his own destiny.

Once again, having your guide submitted for verification first does not show who actually discovered the method. It is really flawed if someone can leech a method of another player / person, and not only sell it, but also prohibit the creator of the method from selling it themselves.

 

This idea of "I sold it first" has got to go. Nicely put R2. Hopefully the rule change will exhibit this.
