Okay... so maybe some of you have heard..

I live in Lebanon, which is located in the middle east, I moved here 5 years ago, from the US, which was my parents decision. I'm 14 and I still have 4 years to get to college which means I could finally leave,

but maybe some of you have heard, year by year our government's worsening and just recently 1/3 of the government resigned causing it to fall.

Day by day, it's worsening for me, at first it was just normal hate, but now it's become some sort of eternal hate that I have for this country which is unbelievably strong. The only thing that keeps me going is the thought about leaving, and basketball. Everything's fine in my life, I'm always on the honor's role etc, just the fact that I can't go outside anymore, just go to school, come back home, I can't even go to the national team practices anymore because of the political situation. I just don't know what to do, it's the same thing every day, school>home>eat>computer>sleep>wake up early> do homework> go to school and it repeats. Maybe most of you already do this, but I seriously don't know what to do, I'm not used to strict routines like this :/

If theres any advice you guys can give me, maybe to just do something to pass the time for the next 4 years other then staying on the computer?

Moving isn't an option, I'm 14, and was born / raised in the US, but my parents just can't stand living there anymore because of whats happening to me now, but it happened to them there, because we didn't have any family there, and my family is all here... We also moved to get some stuff sorted out financially, sell some land etc..

    Thanks a lot,
    Pigbow.

Well, like you, my life used to basically be the same. I used to despise waking up in the morning due to the sheer monotony of it all. But gradually as I got older, I began to realise, the sad thing is, life is monotonous, it is boring. And then I thought, well, how do I combat this? VARIETY. I began to limit myself to the computer every few days, and changed this for reading a book, or watching a DVD. I also began to look at new hobbies and activities I could do. I also found that actually Xbox Live was a great way to vent my frustrations and just remove myself from my own life for a few hours, in that time I wasn't myself, I was the character I was playing. Immerse yourself in different things. The best advice I can give you is look forward to the future, set goals for yourself to accomplish. One of my main goals was to attend a top university, and here I am, in my second year of studying for a degree.

As for Politics, in the time I was growing up in Ireland, the political situation here was not much better. Hypocrisy and corruption, lies and deceit. There was rarely a time when there wasn't a shooting, a beating, a bombing. But, I am pleased to say, things have gotten better. They will for you too. To be honest, no country has the perfect government, the perfect solutions, and you will be hard pushed to find one.

Okay, I see, I try playing ps3 once in a while, but like you said, I want to become a neurosurgeon, and attend harvard/princeton/columbia later on, but the problem is, I can't get out of the house, I'm used to calling friends and going to play basketball or something, and actually walking to the court, or going to the mall, or going to a friends house, I can't do that anymore, so when ever i'm not at school, i'm on the computer :/

Hmmm, well, would your parents be willing to take you to those places? Or would any of your friends be able to come to you? Does your school have a basketball team or activities which you could do after school and then just go straight home?

Hmmm, well have you had a chat with your parents? Maybe they could come up with a solution? Like maybe they could buy your a basketball net for your yard or something? Friends in your street could come to yours then.

No space , I wish, we're trying to put some gravel on our garden though for a basketball court :/ half size, when I tell my parents I want to move, they tell me when I turn 18, I can do what ever I want which really annoys me :/

I got the same answer when I was your age, but now I'm 20 and I do what I want, no questions asked. I don't thinking moving is the solution, many of my friends moved away to tiny houses and flats away from their family home, and they crave when they are able to return. The fact of the matter is "there's no place like home", sorry to quote the wizard of oz there lol.

4 more years in the span of your lifetime is nothing, in my life I went from 15-19 veryyyy quickly in my mind, time begins to fly around that age. Hell, I'm 20 now and time isn't slowing down any! You'll be fine :), just keep your cool, stay focused, keep your eyes on the prize, and most of all, stay classy san diego (had to get anchorman in).

Your parents should take you and leave the country immediately. I'm sure you're aware Hezbollah has been doing dry runs of a simulated coup-de-tat, a complete hostile takeover. The country will go back to the way it was long before you were born... basically run by extremist militants.

It's a bad situation and it's getting worse every day. Israel has mobilized infantry and air forces just incase.

Talk to your parents ? Is it actually that bad were you live or are they being paranoid ? Dont let them make your life a misery if its not necessary.

Wow man, I can imagine how you feel... If I were you I'd probably freak out. Well, fortunately there are still plenty things to do. Read books, for fun OR even to prepare you for college. There are thousands of interesting books about (American) history for example. Can you go to the library, or ask your parents to do so?

I haven't read all of the replies yet so I don't know if this has been suggested, but could you not set something up in your school where you go and live in America? It's like a foreign exchange thing, although someone from America wouldn't be coming to your country. You'd live with an American family who have a child at school you'll be attending, so it's very similar to a foreign exchange program.

They have something like that at my University, I'm considering going to Tokyo.

It's typical for one to strive for independence at your age. The only thing you can hope to do is keep it simple and try and make it through.

You have a tougher issue than most, basically because you're living in a horrible time to live in Lebanon.

mate i know moving out sounds great but you realize you'd need thousands of dollars to move out of that country, have a place to live in america, and enough time to find a job? its unlikely in your situation I would find a job then save up every dime you get... cus moving to america is no easy venture
