Woman claims the sun; Smart or desperate?

So, the story is: A Spanish woman from Galicia claims ownership to the sun and is attempting to enforce a lease of use to all who wish to use the sun. I'm taking this to mean companies who run off of solar energy, etc.

Personally, I think she's not getting a dime out of the USA. As a citizen, it's generally laughed upon for someone to try a mass-scale charge for something as foolish and non-sensible as "owning the sun". Then again, people pay good money for "canned air" or for packaged dirt, why not add sun to the list... About her ownership, I think there will probably be a movement-- whether in the form of the people saying the sun can't be owned, or from politicians-- saying it can't be possible to own something like the sun... but we'll see

If she owns the sun, then I'm suing because I don't want her property making me sweat in the summer.

 

I wonder if she has to pay a fine whenever someone's admitted to the hospital with severe sunburns or skin cancer or something haha

 

So she want's people to pay for using the sun? What more motivation could you need for switching to solar power.

 

Yeah for real. I'm honestly eager to see what she does with her "license" and whether she can find a way to force people to pay for the use of the sun...

 

This is one of the strangest stories I've ever heard, now someone else is going to claim that they own the moon.

 

Too late, the USA already claimed it right out from under the Russians (who are now selling "moon property" to Americans per square foot)

 

this is funny. as you guys have said...if she could in fact own the sun and put a price on it, she would in fact be held accountable for the millions upon millions of cases of skin cancer caused by overexposure to the sun, etc.

but at the same time it really would not surprise me as i do pay for water...why not pay for the sun

 

I have no doubt in my mind that anything will happen. No one will honor her "ownership"

I would personally honor it if she staked a claim sign into the sun saying its hers, only then i will acknowledge her ownership.

 

Yeah, a friend of mine has 2 big solar panels on top of his house. I'd laugh if they start ticketing people for using them or something. And solar lights next to your driveway? solar flashlights? solar radios? charging you for getting a tan. charging you for starting a fire with a magnifying glass. stupid shit like that

Reading this really annoyed me for some reason.

 

well you can "buy" small parts of ownership on the moon for cheap prices.
so why not ?

 

She is just wasting her time and money. No one will give her a dime.

 

I agree with you, if anything I would be like fuck her she doesn't have the right to own the sun. I think of it as a higher power because at any moment it could blow up or it could shut down killing all life on Earth Hell, just a giant solar flare could kill everything here on earth. No human has the right to claim something that can at any moment destory the owner.

 

She's not smart at all -- she gains nothing from this. She can't charge me from being involuntarily affected by her property. She may own the sun, but I own the land I am on and I have every right to remain here. I didn't ask for the sun nor did I agree in anyway to pay her for something I do not want.

On the other hand her property is giving many people skin cancer. They are involuntarily affected by her property too, but in a negative way so they can sue/ press charges/ etc.

 

People who claimed ownership of the moon have started selling it in small amounts, so why not claim the sun.

the funny thing i think is that yes on a 'peice of paper' you may 'own' it...

but nevertheless you cant 'own' the moon or 'sun' as its not ours to give away.
