[approved] Merging of community and trading server.

I think it'd be worth doing.

I also think the link to discord should be in the header of the forum so that people can easily click a link to get redirected to the discord. Right now you have to hunt down the link in a specific thread.

I am against this idea. I do not follow the reasoning that it will lead to (significantly) more activity.

Moreover, just like with asset-management, diversification of risk is beneficial. There will be less impact if a server is deleted by Discord if there are two servers.

Thirdly, the nature of the servers is also different. The trading server has a more business-like tone, while the community server has a setting that is more akin to a pseudo-spam forum. It's best to keep this seperate.

As a trader, I feel this would lead to more activity. If I were to post in Sythe trade chat with my gold advertisement, I would be more active in Sythe general as well, especially if they were only a few channels away. Currently, how I have my discord setup, I have the two Sythe servers quite a distance away from each other on my server bar (left-hand side). Not that everyone is the same as me (I'm sure a lot of you have both servers right next to each other), but I thought I would give a trader perspective.

As someone who has been around a while, I remember all the hassles of the discords continually getting banned when they were merged. In fear of having this happen again (because it hasn't happened in a very long time), and only for this reason, I have to say no support.

 

Omg look! A trader that is actually involved with the community. Rare. But on a serious note, I get this sentiment. I wasn't in the Discord back then to know from experience.

 

Specifically addressing risk, what about:

- Assuming the sythe vanity URL is under sythe's control, that's used to create a new "landing" server. There'd be nothing in this server except one channel with a link to the "real" server.

The server that'd be advertised publicly will always be the "landing server" which would be tied to the vanity, which will have a link to the real server (without any special vanity URLs), which if in any event is deleted the landing server would just need to update the invite link for the new one.

If it doesn't work out then we can just go back to the existing model of two servers, but as things stand right now the discords aren't super active so it seems worth to try to changing something up / experimenting.

 

Sythe discord being more active is a positive thing imo. Support.

If the discord gets deleted because of it once, i think it not be merged again and just go back to the way it was.

 

Oh... i'm blind. If a new server is made it'd be nice if that link would redirect directly to the server invite, imo

 

Perhaps placing the discord link in the same location, and with the same graphics, as hyperlinks to different sections of the website (which one can simply scroll down to view). Isnt the best idea.

Should be relocated, or multiple additional locations should be added.

 

In the past it was one place and we chose to keep them separate due to Discord rules. We ran into some problems. The site's Discord was shut down twice as I remember, so it's good to keep it as it is.
It is good to have a place for trade and another place for conversation and entertainment. I think the merger will not change anything

So I was not wanting to really go into this as I think a majority know what I think about the discord servers as a whole, they are a clusterfuck.

You have people who spam their sales yet don't actually answer the pms, you have people who want to say something but get censored for it like it's a #MeToo cringe moment again. And above all of this, honestly it's really not that appealing anymore to want to be involved in the discord community side of things...

Don't get me wrong, you have people like myself who are amusing to watch when we go on one with another member of the community, I wont mention names because i'll probably get this post deleted and given warning points for some dumb shit reason, but like the said person who wanted to "fight me" but wouldn't and then the countless other wars we have had calling people hillbillies, asking if they sleep with their family members and such like dirty incests they are

It's fun and all, but few and far between each other. If you was like me and you came from places like Powerbot back in the day where we ACTUALLY did shit on each other properly to this PG era of Sythe where everyone is the LGBTQ vegan queen it's like nah i'm fine thanks rather not be involved.

I know what you're going to say... Oh but the servers will be deleted if you speak a certain way, or if you say the N word far too much.. But isn't that what the "spam forums" (yes sythe community discord is spam forum) for? If you're offended by basic crap because you said something stupid about children making it sound like you are a kiddy fiddler or because like our friend back on PB Will (not sure his name here, some people may remember him) would like to carve our names into his penis and upload pictures of it it doesn't mean we all have to be fairies and this is what ruins it...

Surely if you're easily offended by all that, you should not be in this part of the community and stick to the forums not the spam server which is literally NSFW...

Anyway i'm rambling because this sort of suggestion is just dumb. I am not against the idea of two different servers or a joined combined server, but if we're gonna do a combined one maybe people need to man up a bit and stop reporting the said server(s) or throw a strop because people want to take the piss out of each other and have a laugh.


Edit - Sorry @Pikachu mr ABM sir. You know how I can get at times with some of these things as recently displayed in the discord server lmao, it should be a place of freedom of speech where we can have a laugh and fun without having some maggot reporting the whole server or our discord accounts because they are easily upset over simple stuff.
