    Question:
I know my dad is also a personal trainer, but does Whey Protein build "mass"?, because i'm around 147 lbs skinny and I just got my gym pass today and just wondering if i should buy 28lb bag before i blow my money on it.

To be honest, if you are skinny and are looking to bulk up a little and add mass, i recommend first going with a weight gainer. I did this a while back. I highly recommend True-Mass by BSN. Worked great for me. Provides proper ingredients to help you add mass while supplying your muscles with a solid amount of protein.

are you looking for meals or just something healthy that can fill you up when you are healthy?
If you are just looking for something to fill you up when you are hungry, i recommend getting a protein powder that is ok to consume regularly. They can be very filling. I would not recommend consuming more than 2 servings per day of the supplement unless otherwise instructed by specific details on the protein powder bottle/container.

Alternatively, 7 foods that will fill you up and prevent overeating include:

Bananas, eggs, almonds, avocados, peanut butter, oatmeal, and apples.

    hope this helped :)

feel free to ask anything else you might be wondering about!

hard boiled eggs are great! And as far as the quick responses...no problem, my pleasure :)

For the most part, this is actually a myth. The only thing is that children are still developing and bones may be weaker than that of adults so it is possible to fracture bones. Also, youth have growth plates in places such as the heel, ankle, knees, and growth plates are the last places where bones harden so they may be more vulnerable to fractures. But lets be serious, how often do you hit your ankles or knees while working out? not a whole lot :p

no problem m8. good luck and let me know what you think of the product and keep me informed of your progress!

I have a couple of questions.

I'm a big fan of free weights, machines (besides the "Pec-Dec") just aren't me. I'm just wondering, what are the differences between simply using a basic barbell with free weights vs. using a smith bench?

I've only used the smith bench at my gym a few times, and noticed I could bench a bit more than usual.

Nextly, when using weight gainers that include creatine as an ingredient; should I worry about performing creatine cycles, and only use the weight gainers for months at a time? Or do I not really need to worry about cycling?

you can accomplish virtually the same thing with free weights and the basic barbell (which is considered free weights). Except you can do different exercises with dumbbells like dumbbell flys which can help broaden your chest . A smith machine is assisted and is an ok alternative if your working out solo, but i would always recommend the basic bench press if you have a spotter. The standard bench press requires more muscles to stabilize the lift, leading to more muscle growth.

"A study performed at Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa) found that trained lifters were, on average, more than 15% stronger during their one-rep max bench press when testing with a free-weight barbell as compared to a Smith machine. In a follow-up study performed by the Weider Research Group (Woodland Hills, California), trained bodybuilders were about 10% stronger during the free-weight bench press compared to the Smith machine bench press when using a 10-rep max weight. The strength deficit on the Smith machine is due to the fixed, straight path of the bar in the Smith machine. In contrast, when pressing the bar up during a bench press, the strongest path is a curved one (heading toward your chin on the way up)."

You might think you bench more on a smith machine but it is simply an illusion. An olympic standard barbell is 45 lbs while a smith machine bar is about 10 lbs.

As far as the weight gainers with creatine, no, you do not have to worry about cycling. In these cases (where creatine is found in the weight gainer) the doses of creatine in them are too small to worry about cycling. In fact i used one of those myself and i thought it was great. I believe it was "Cyto Gainer".

I had figured the Smith Machine bar was lighter, I just never really took much time using it/ looking at it (it's been awhile as well since I've touched it.)

Thanks for the info about weight-gainer, it's been something that's been on my mind for awhile. I have a large tub of simplistic creatine monohydrate and simply put, the only way I can get it down without it disturbing my throat so much, is if I go by spoonfuls, and then a following up with some water. After a month, it becomes more of a hassle anyways. So I'd rather pick up a weight gainer with some creatine in it that I don't need to cycle.

    Thanks!

and about the protein drinks, I thought it was better to eat something healthy instead of sugars. sugar only lasts shortly for explosive workout?

    as far as exercises:
chest: bench press, inclined press, declined press, dumbbell flys
arms: bicep curls, hammer curls, dips, skull crushers, push ups, cable pull down

protein drinks are not for explosive workouts from sugar. they are used to supply your muscles with proper nutrients for efficient break down and recovery/growth

    Couple of questions:

    - If you are struggling to find motivation to go for a run, to turn down unhealthy foods (e.g a chocolate bar when you don't need one) what is the best approach do you think to re-motivate yourself?

    - Do you consider resistive weights a good method?

    - I have a complete growth protein that I previously used for weights - is this still acceptable to use for weight loss?

For me, being out of shape is a motivation. Also something that always got me going was seeing someone else who is in great shape and I would think "dang i wanna look like that." besides that, maybe try finding a friend who shares the same goals and motivate each other.

    resistive weights like bowflex?

a growth protein....for muscle building? i would think it is acceptable for weight loss as long as it has no fat producing elements..

feel free to ask anything else m8.

    good luck :)

I'm 15, and I'm really hoping to start getting into shape.

I was wondering if you had some sort of meal-planner, if you will. To start off getting into shape I'd like to know what you would advise to have breakfast to dinner, and how I could toss this up within a week.

P.S: I really like what you're doing here, angus. Thanks in advance, and great to see a member like you! I suggest after answering some more questions, you gather up your answers and any other outstanding information you have about this topic and submit a guide in the UE forum, I'm sure it would help a ton of people. Thanks again!
