well soul wars has a minimum level before you can spend zeals on a skill, cant remember what it is though like 20 or 25 i think? anyways, Im sure its possible to use lamps and stuff from quests to get to the SW req without getting hp, not gonna be fun but its possible I believe.

And, there's always experience lamps! ROFL

I dont think thats true. Could sworn i spent some zeals on 10 str. But i dont remember clearly.

 

I could have sworn you could do sw since level 1, I've seen people with 10 hp and 65 def.

 

I can confirm that you can put zeals on skills that are level one, however the percentage cannot be calculated under 25 in that skill.

 

You could do penguins along with everything else people have suggested.

Soul Wars is really your only option here, at least as far as I'm aware.

There's a few quests which give some xp-lamps as rewards. Right now I'm thinking of the holiday-one where the one witch has her soup... it was the holiday-quest we got the 'broom' in.
