Allow Users Involved to Post in the Scammer Report

Atm it seems that only staff members can post in the section (I might be wrong). I think it would help if the accused user can reply too and explain the situation, instead of making another thread, PMing a mod etc. However, anyone that is not involved in the matter should not post there to avoid spam.

It might also reduce disputes.

 

It will just turn into a pissing contest/flamefest. Thats my only problem with this idea.

 

OMMs and staff can post, as well as the user who posted the report, not sure what you are requesting?

Just have them PM us and we will paste what they said.

While I do see King Tjin's point, as there have been times when I have been reported for completely ridiculous things, it is definitely probably for the best that only OMMs/Mods can post.

 

Allowing mutual party to post seems to be fair tho. On powerbot, they asked the person what he had to say when sometimes theres "insufficient proof", and it got the job done.

 

If there is not sufficient proof, then we dont ban. If I need clarification, I pm the other member before taking any action. Trust me, the system we have here is much better than Powerbot.

 

Only if you were guilty would you want to post in the report, to defend themself?

 

+1 i think that the only way to do this is with the pm's. otherwise all the 13 year olds here will say the other guy is wrong :nuts:

 

I don't see the point in 90% of scam reports that the accused even needs to place a reply. The evidence almost always speaks for itself; otherwise, there is no reason to ban them in the first place.

I agree with JT. Tensions get really high when people start filing scam reports. You're overestimating the average maturity level of most of those people who are involved in scammed trades. While sometimes a person is given the ability to state their case before a decision is made, in most cases there is no reason for this to happen. It'll just turn into a ragefest. If a person is required to respond, a mod can quote a PM.

 

Ofc Mod can issue a ban if the poster is just raging and being pointless. What I'm saying allowing the person to post on the same thread might be an easier way to work things out. But I understand your concerns.

Here is a report I saw on powerbot.

Reporter: I paid him for a service but never got it. I have chatlogs and paypal screenshot.
PB Mod: Chatlog aint proof but I have PM'ed the said user to post here.
Scammer: I've been having internet problems and I can't refund cuz my paypal is limited.
PB Mod: Thats not an excuse. Banned.

Reporter: No I don't. I have closed the chat window.
Sythe Mod: Insufficient proof. Locked.

I remember this guy named Thefrostman, after been reported many times he finally got banned but it was months later. If he had been confronted, maybe he would've been banned sooner.

All I could see happening is arguing and denial.

 

But just a denial won't let him walk away will it?

For example, someone was accused for recovering an account, if he denied, mod can get him to recover it and give it back to the buyer. Faillure to do this will result in a ban.

 

Why don`t you just allow the user to post a message but it can`t be displayed public until approved by a mod? isn`t that how the community section is like atm when creating a new thread?

 

This sounds like a good idea, basically, but it would be a lot of work for the mods to go through all the posts and see which ones are by the user involved etc. I don't think it's necessary. The reported user can give their view on the story in a PM or even in a Dispute. It's not like they don't have a chance to defence themselves.

 

I think the current system works fine.

 

Report a scammer threads are already complicated enough, I would not like non-staff being able to post, its rather tedious that OMM's can post..
