SAT Reasoning Test.

Hey guys, In 11 days, I have to go to take an exam called the SAT, It's a test that basically Informs Colleges about your "Smartness" I bought the SAT Barron's book, Studied a bit from it, I'm kinda nervous about the exam, Since it basically decides what your future is going to be. I'm pretty sure most of you that live in America have taken the exam or will eventually take it, I would appreciate it If you guys have any tips That would help me it and What Topics I should stress on. Also, It would be great to tell me what scores you guys got, Thanks.

 

Unless you get a tutor you won't improve much on your own as far as math goes; reading you can work on on your own and get faster and better using the book. Don't stay on one question too long, pace yourself, don't stress, and rage on adderall are my tips.

 

Forget the notion that the test actually means anything. It really does not. Accepting that will reduce your stress level and make you do better.

 

The test is a pain, your going to need to do all the practice tests over, and over and over again.
As SuF said, it does not mean anything, its just a corporation that makes these tests who have ties with the education system to try and earn money throwing this bullshit at us students.

 

Be relaxed about it, but I'd definitely work though a book and take some practice tests, try to learn how to do the problems that you don't understand. I completely blew off studying for mine and regretted it later. I think I got a 2050.

People are right that the test doesn't really mean anything about your intelligence, but it does mean something as far as college applications go; so while it's not something to stress over you should prepare and make sure you do as well as you can on it, you want to put yourself in the best possible position when applying.

Many colleges feel that it is one of the least important factors in deciding who gets admitted and who does not. Point is, a one time test will not reverse years of schooling and grades.

 

Thanks for the tips SuF, I got a longg Journey, Here they require to pass The SAT AND 7 SAT subjects in order to graduate, Kinda messed up :/

 

That really sucks. Just make sure you choose subjects that you feel strongly about.

i doubt it dude, if people are saying that it must be 1500/1600 (only reading and math) I am done with SAT's and college apps . senioritis is setting in too >_<

 

The test really isn't that important.

People here in Korea attend private SAT study schools and basically just learn how to get the max score possible on it, regardless of their intelligence.

Schools have realized this and don't look really count it as much as they used to (or so a speaker from Harvard told us).


I got around 2000 on it without preparation or studying.

What exactly did you do? I'm also taking this test in the next few days and wan to do the best I can with the least amount of studying. I got 1800 on my PSAT with rushing through it so I think I'll do fine.

 

It maybe an important test, but it doesn't decide your future.

 

Don't worry about it too much, colleges now are putting more emphasis on grades over the SAT. Most don't even look at the writing part ofthe test anymore..

I got a 1690 my first time and 1820 my second and I've gotten into every college I've applied to.

getting a tutor would be a good idea. Getting as much outside help as possible can only help. It is tough to practice by yourself, but some can pull it off. I got a 1200 on the sat. The best thing you could practice solo is probably reading. work on your reading speed and comprehension. good luck man.

Obviously that's with 3 tests since without it the max is with 2 is 1600.

 

Just gonna add my little tip,

literally do as many practice test as possible one month before the test.
Half a year before, start preparing for your weakest section. Don't do the WHOLE test. Instead, try to focus on whatever section you are weakest in, whether it's vocabs, math, or writing.
3 month before, start working on some practice tests. Not daily, probably once a week.

O, fill up the whole 2 page for the essay. Guaranteed double digit score for essays as long as the structure is not too weak. Essay readers do not have the time to look over the whole essay. Longer essays detail that you know a lot about what you are talking about = Good marks.

Follow this tip, you will do pretty well on the test!

My first time taking it i got an 1890, but this past November, I ended up with a 2250.
