How To Bowl A Pace Ball

    Hello,

Welcome to my first Sports guide. In this guide I will show you how to bowl a basic pace(fast) ball in cricket. I will split my guide into parts.

    • Part I : The Grip
    • Part II : The Run Up
    • Part III : The Bowling Action And Where You Want The Ball To Land
    • Part IV : The Follow Through

    Part I : The Grip
The way you grip the ball is very important as each different type of ball has a different grip. So the grip for a pace ball is very simple, it looks like this :

So as you can see you put your first two fingers from the left of your thumb if left handed and right of your thumb if right handed, also known as your Index and Middle Fingers on either side of the seem and your thumb on the opposite side on the seem.

Part II : The Run Up

The Jump is also very import in bowling a pace ball as it generates a lot of pace. So first of all go to the crease and run in a straight line towards the boundary with your eyes closed and jump in a bowling action when it feels right like so,

then as you land just try to make a mark with your foot as you land and then go back to that mark and make it more visible. Now you have made your run up mark you can test it by running from your mark and if your right handed your left foot should land on the crease line and if you're left handed then your right foot should land on the crease line after you jump, if this happens then you can move on if not repeat the step.

Part III : The Bowling Action And Where You Want The Ball To Land

Ok now that you have your run up correct you want to bowl the ball. So now do your run-up and in your jump if you're right handed then you pull your left arm down as your right arm goes up like so,

and if you're left handed then you do the opposite. Now you want to release the ball around the time that your arm brushes your ear but you will need to experiment with this and try get it in the "Good Length" box that has 45% percent in this picture:

Part IV : The Follow Through

The follow through is something that can generate you more pace and is often overlooked. If you continue running through after you have release the ball towards the striking batsman then it will give you that bit more pace that others don't have and also can increase your chances for a caught and bowled.

Once you have got the ball pitching good just work on your run up, jump, pulling your arm down and your follow through.
