how does pardon work?

I don’t really know which section to post this, but I was just wondering, in regards to the high pardon request, would someone know if they got into stage 2?
Because I’m looking in the high pardon section in the dispute forum, and I see I Only Sell’s pardon: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=980409
I noticed it’s been 2 days already but the thread isn’t locked.

 

I'm just about to get onto them now. If you cannot find the thread it means it's been moved to the Staff Lounge for voting. If it's in the archives, it should mean it's been denied.

 

Just one question. How do people the staff have no idea about get pardoned? I mean the randoms that were banned a year or two ago. For example, Jebediah the Wise man, most people supported his pardon because people knew/liked him, but then you see randoms like Armyrog84 get no support because nobody knows him.

 

People who are awarded pardons should be people who have given significant positive contributions to the site. If no one knows who they are, then chances are they would not be awarded one anyways.

 

It's for "those members whom we believe are of some value to the community" as Finn said in the stipulations regarding pardons. What you said was letting people get away with scamming. Rewarding people from hiding the bad deeds they did. If I killed somebody and didn't get caught until 30 years later and helping the community out I would still be held in a court and face jail punishment.

Basically the pardons are now, break a rule, hide from it, make friends with mods, wait till you get caught or confess, get away with it since you're friends with the mods.

 

There was recent discussion and clarification in the SL on who the pardons are for, and how they are intended to be distributed, and one must be more than just "some value to the community" in order to get one.

And slightly off topic, all these silly real life metaphors need to stop. No way you can conceivably compare murder with any action you could commit on an internet cheating forum lol.

 

I agree with cosrob. Regular member should also have a fair chance of a pardon. You shouldn't have to have had mod friends to stand a chance. And the rule that requires 5 mods to support an unban in 2 days makes it even worse. I don't even think 5 different mods post in 5 days let alone ban together to support someone they did not know. Cases should be looked at individually by the rule they broke then by how they posted/personality and lastly by judging their appeal and seeing if it is relevant and genuine.

 

So if you were caught self vouching the next day, you would be happy to have your pardon denied?

I'll make a better real life metaphor. I robbed a bank and got away with it for 10 years, in that 10 years I helped the community with the money I stole. Some how I get caught. I'll still be heard in court. I scammed somebody $10, then I donate it to Sythe.org, helping the community. I should still be be banned.

How does that not correlate?
