Samsung Tv as a laptop moniter (need help)

I recently purchased a Sansung HD TV. I have an HDMI cable connected from my Hp Laptop to the Tv. But the TV only displays my desktop picture. And I do not know jackshit about computers. I tried fucking around with the moniter settings, but it didn't do anything. Do I need a moniter cable aswell? Or would this be a software issue?

 

What do you mean by "only displays my desktop picture"?

 

It is working and is set as your secondary monitor (as long as your computer is still displaying your desktop). Go to your display settings on your laptop (where you set resolution) and you should see both monitors and you can change some settings around. Essentially, you can move your mouse and things to the TV by moving to what ever side the monitor is set to.

 

This. Go on the screen settings where you set resolution and set the samsung tv monitor as your main monitor

 

Its showing your desktop image because it is working parallel to your main screen (1), you can drag browsers here to increase work efficiency or you can run it so its a duplicate image. Go to personalize or properties to change it if you want.

 

Well it won't let me make the T.V the primary monitor. I am using a Hp laptop. Which is probably the reason why..

 

There is no reason why it should not. But regardless, you still are able to put stuff on the TV by dragging it over there.
