"like" button for threads/posts

i think adding a "like" button similar in use to that of facebook's "like" system would be very beneficial....

this would hopefully make obsolete unnecessary posts such as "yeah i like that idea" or "yeah i agree with that" (which are common techniques used by people striving for post counts).

this would probably help filter out fakes, scammers, spammers, etc...and would help clean up threads a bit

The rating one is kinda hard to find! Like button is cool. This feature is available in one of the other forums I visit (well its a 'Thank' button)

 

What is the actual point.
It'd promote trolling and spamming stupid posts to try and get people to 'Like' it.

And I fail to see how it'd filter any scammers out whatsoever, because people can 'Like' what you posted... :/

 

That basically falls under a "Thanks" button.

This isn't FaceBook, lol... But something like that would be okay, would stop users from spamming saying they agree or whatever, like you said (Or it should stop them, I'm pretty sure some users will still do it...)

 

the idea behind it stopping scammers is that it would stop said scammer from raising post count (to make a more legit-looking account) via unnecessary comments such as "yeah i agree." ideally, hitting the like button would not increase post count. overall i believe it would at the very least slow down scammers....

 

It would be a good idea but this wont happen unless there's alot of support because the forum is 'pre-made' and they purchase/download it and it's already made and you just apply themes. Unless they upgrade to a higher vBulletin then I don't think it's available.

 

I actually thought about suggesting this too :] I like the idea.

 

Adding a thanks button will only lead to people acting like Thanks whores. Aka, making crappy puns and the like to get thanks

 

I like the idea, it doesn't really do much but I can see it being used a lot.

 

if this is the case then that is unfortunate as that would be asking probably too much and is too strenuous to approve a single suggestion....idk though

and @BEYOND REASON: the idea is not to look for immediate gratification. it may appear to do nothing in the immediate...but this idea is more to benefit the sythe community in the long run (which i truly believe it would).

Not a bad idea, nice suggestion.

My concern is this - It won't stop anyone from posting the same thing at all, and I really don't see how it will filter scammers, etc.. (in my own opinion).

Although it wouldn't protect against spammers and scammers, it is a pretty cool/unique suggestion.

This suggestion would function nothing like a "Thanks" or Rep button, it would act just as it would on Facebook or something like that.

 

My question is, besides the point this is already a do not suggest, how is it unique?

There is a game I play and the forums has the 'Like' button and it is useless. It is useless server load that we don't need. Just rate the thread and get on with it, this isn't facebook - don't try to make it that way.
