My views changed

Okay, so just a little while ago, my home was knocked upon by a random stranger. normally, i'd just open up and say hi, tell my mom who it is, and go do something while she talks to them. it was 1:39am. immediately i pickup a bat, woke my dad and he gets a handgun from our safe, we go to the door and we converse with the stranger long enough to get the police on the phone. the stranger gave us a load of bull about needing help from her mother, and she broke the main lock on our door, so my father fired a shot on the pavement-steps, and naturally the stranger ran. after explaining the gunfire to the police, 4 cars showded up and began to patroll the neighboorhood. She was considered unstable by the state, had a rusty knife on her person, and was under the influence of LSD. as it turns out, she has a warrant out for her arrest and years ago was found with 5 unregistered firearms. I do not believe in taking a human life if at all possible in self-defense (call me what you will) but once it was all over, i found myself glad to have a lethal weapon in my household. I protested it at first, and my father and i argued about it on several occasions. I am just wondering if this is a normal reaction, due to all the events/happenings, or if i am traumatized now and will ever do something drastic and not think things through should something else happen. sorry if this is a little badly written, its late, and im having a huge brainstorm in my head about this..

You defiantly did the right thing, especially if somebody is knocking on your door at 1:30am.

 

Learning to use a firearm is important skill, I am very left wing but I believe in owning firearms for ones protection. It is in your best interest in today's world to have some sort of defense. If it comes down to it, having a deadly weapon can be very useful.

Dont worry about it. Its pretty natural, actually 0.0 Does that sound weird? probably lol but thats sort of happened to be before. Except they threw a rock through my parents window to get them distracted, then tried to go through our broken front door that doesnt open so my stepdad shot him in the leg, called the cops, and everything. To this day I sleep with a taser and pepper spray in my room, as I dont trust myself with a gun because even after that I still dont want to actually harm anyone, (Stepdad didnt care lmao) but I do like the idea of being safe at night. :\ Hope that helps knowing that someones gone through the same thing :]

 

You just scared the shit out of that poor kid. You americans are quite weird, I don't go answer my door with a handgun in my pocket(or a bat, wtf). Let me guess, you guys don't have many visitors do you?

 

No but how is he weird. Or how are Americans weird? If someone, you DONT KNOW WHO, comes to your house in the middle of the night and knocks on your door, your not only gunna be scared, your gunna be mmmaaaaddd. They could be some serial killer that, as soon as you open the door, is gunna shoot you in your face! Or it could be a rapist, a burglar, any creeper out there. Im sorry for us not wanting to lose all our stuff+be murdered. -.- gee whiz

Sounds scary , if she looked like wreck i would just told her to get the hell of the property . I would have swung if she broke through the door.
