Steam digits - who gives a fuck?

I mean seriously, whenever someone sells a steam account, everybody asks how many digits it has, as if that really matters.

I mean I can see how years and years ago you would look at a low digit account and think, ok, this person has an old account, therefor maybe plays a bit better and therefor you might want to invite them to your clan before higher digit players or whatever, but seriously, steam account trading is SO popular nowadays, most everyone has an account they've bought illegally and even if they don't, they've probably had multiple different new accounts during their life, so the digits don't really prove anything. Even if it did prove that you're an old player, some people learn quicker some slower, someone that has played for 2 years can still be a worse player than someone that has played 1 year. Besides I can buy an account, wait 5 years until actively playing with it, and still be utterly bad at it.

So in reality the only people that care about low digits account is the people that are trying to sell accounts with low digits.

Just curious what other people think about this, because tbh to me it is becoming a little annoying.

I know how you feel. I personally would rather state the accounts after what year they were made, instead of the digits.
But that's just isn't how it is today. :/

 

Always wondered about this. Why the # of digits matters. Skill > Old Timer.

People are just stupid and trying to get more out of their accounts IMO

 

If I might ask, what does it mean if a Steam account has digits? And why do people kick up a fuss about them?

It's really lame with those digits cause all the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 digits was made in 2003. 7 digits was made in late 03 - may 05. And then the rest is 8 digits. It would be a lot better to state them after years.

I don't think it should matter at all. The method of 'digits' isn't valid, but it's just the way how people look at things, like Sengira said.

It's a rarity. Why does it matter if you have a 2 letter Runescape name? Because the game, being Valve or Jagex, will never have less users.

And for me;

Why do you care? Do you have a bunch of steam accounts with nothing lower then 7 digits, thus enraging you into bitching about it?

 

exactly, whats the point of a 2 letter name is runescape? yes, show off something that is "rare". Its just the same with party hats and all that other rare stuff.. it doesnt give you an advantage but it just looks cool because people know its rare. Same goes for a steam account with low digits.

 

What's the point of having low digit's, You probably don't see them ingame?
I get the point of a 2letter Runescape name, to show off.
But how you want to show off like 4digit accounts?

But that's the problem! People are giving a 'thing'. They are paying a lot more for a 4 digit account, than they would have done for an 8 digit account.

 

Thing is, its not a 'problem.' It in no way, shape, or form affects you playing the game. So bitching about it is completely pointless?

 

It affects me paying 30 dollars more for a counter strike account just because it has 2 less numbers in a steamid that nobody looks at.

Do it. Go look at the steam sales forum. They're selling low digit accounts with just hl1 pack for 35 dollars, whereas recent hl1 accounts go for 6 dollars.
