Peetus' "How to Defence Pure" Guide

Hello, dear Sytheists, and welcome to my "How to Defence Pure" Guide. This guide will be about staking, but it can help you to PK aswell. There is no Summoning included.

I. Choosing your name.

These days choosing a good name is not as important as it used to be, since you can change it to another display name later. But you can only do this every 28th day, so it is good to have a name to your liking.
Try to avoid names like "I_Iz_Tanqsta" Since that name would kind of kill your chances to succesfully stake, and I bet you wouldn't even like it in the long run.

II. Getting money on your account.

The bad side of the Defence Pures compared to normal Pures, is that they have to buy expensive armour. To do that, you'll need money. To get enough money to afford all armour from Iron, to all the way to Torags and dragonfire shield, you're going to need 200M+. Now you may wonder, "How am I going to get that much?" I'm going to list ways in the end of my guide. To afford armour from all the way up to Rune your going to need around 250K. To gain that amount, I suggest you to pick up Black Scimitars upstairs in Ardougne Castle. I'm going to put a how-to-video in the end of this section, be sure to check it out.
Now, after roughly 40 minutes of picking up scimitars, you should have enough money to buy all armour sets from Iron to Rune, and Amulet of Glory, Red Topaz Machete, Combat bracelet and 50 trouts. Put offer to Combat bracelet first, since that's going to take the most time to buy.

III. Training

Take out your brand new iron set, along with your red topaz machete, glory, and combat bracelet, and head to Edgeville. Once you're there, go to the Man House, next to the bank. Slay those poor villagers [remember to pick up herbs + clues] until you reach 20 Defence, and can wear mithril.
Then, you've 2 options.

I. Go to Monks
-Pros: Better xp than Rock Crabs, less crowded.
-Cons: No drops except Bones. They've little HP, so you can't AFK as long.


II. Go to Rock Crabs
-Pros: They drop charms, shall you ever evolve into summoning tank. You can AFK longer, since they have over 3 times the health of Monks.
-Cons: They're often crowded. You have to leave every 10-25 minutes to make them aggressive again.

(Personally I'd go with Monks at this point, your call)

Alternative methods: ( These can be as good, if not better, I don't have much personal experience of these )

-Dwarves
-Scorpions
-Cows
-Chickens
-Low level zombies

Train at the place of your liking until 40 Defence. Then you should complete "Shadow of the Storm" quest. More of that in the "Quest" Section.
This quest should get you to 42 Defence + you'll get your best friend, DarkLight from it.

Now you should move to Rock Crabs, since you can get get multiple of them attacking you, without taking virtually no damage.
Once you hit 45 Defence, you could get Fighter Torso if you'd like, personally I wouldn't recommend wasting time.

Once 50 Defence, you should move to Soul Wars.

There you can get the most experience / hour, but remember to level you HP aswell. Your hp should be 8-9 levels lower than your Defence, no more.

That's with the training, you'll Soul Wars until you're maxed, since it's the fastest experience to Defence Pures.

IV. Staking.

IMPORTANT - Get atleast 60 Defence before you start staking.
ALWAYS USE BEST GEAR POSSIBLE.

Once your looking for potential opponents, do NOT wear your true gear. Instead, use something like this:

How to hunt for opponents:

Method 1: Try to look for cocky pures, then, start arguing with them, sooner or later you'll be staking.

Method 2: Funfight someone, DO NOT USE YOUR REAL GEAR. After you've lost the duel, ask to stake this time. If the opponent agrees, good. Now it's the time to surprise him and use your real gear.

Method 3: Stake people 10-15 leves higher than you, the fights might be a little more challenging, but you should still be able to pull out an easy win.



During the battle

Wear your gear as fast as you can. Also pull out your DarkLight, use it's special attack to lower your enemys' Defence. Then pull out the BEST P++ DAGGER YOU CAN USE, and use it to, obviously, poison your enemy. When it's done, use the best scimitar you can, to finish him off.
If you have a dragonfire shield, which you should, always have it charged. It gives a great advantage

V. Building up your bank.


Of couse you CAN use the Black Scimitar Method to gain 200M+, but that's not really the best way of doing so.
Since Grand Exchange merching will be dead in a matter of weeks / months, it's not recommended moneymaking way. But you could try flipping outside the Grand Exchange.
Example: Buy 100 Rune Scimitars for 25K each. Sell them for 35K each in Edgeville bank, at major PKing worlds

But but, let's not forget that Defence pure are meant to be STAKERS. Where does their income come from? Oh yes, STAKING.
If you don't feel like staking, go ahead, and flip / merch, but I guarantee that it won't be as profitable.

You could also use the "Alternative method", and SCAM people. I will not provide further information, but you can check out YouTube videos. This is not recommended, as it can lead to Permanent Ban, and it's against the good spirit of the game.

This would work but I highly doubt people will stake you. They'll make you QC your stats before hand.

 

Believe me, there are people who do. Many of them. There is so much spam in the Duel Arena, that you can just manually type and pretend to be Quickchatting. If they try to force you to Private Message-Quickchat, just walk away.

I speak from personal experience, not hard to find opponents.

 

How much money do level 35's really have?

 

Pures do have alot, since they can transfer it from their mains.
Ever seen low levels with Cannons? Though so.
What about Wizard (g) Robes? Yes.

They can also look up your stats in highscores even if you block adventures log. You also gotta look out for mage pures they hurt You can try to disable magic when your selecting the duel options however, idk if that will affect if you can use your DFS spec since the special is mage based.

 

You should definitely make one, it's very easy way of making some quick cash. It's fun to play on one too

 

The minimum level required to get ranked in Defence is currently 60, so you could be wearing dragon and not being seen in the Hiscores. Many people won't check up the hiscores anyway, if you make them feel like they'd win.

And for the other question, you CAN use Dragonfire Shields' special attack, when magic is off, since the special attack isn't magic based, but Dragonfire based.

 

Not much. You will have loads of stakes around the 200k mark. However you do find the odd pure with a few mills that may stake you. A lot of the staking with this build is the pre-talk and convincing the opponent they have the advantage.

 

Many pures have alot. They've transferred it from their wealty mains, and with their riches, they think they can win ANYBODY, and so they're willing to stake.

Yes, Pre-talking has a big part in 50%~ of the battles. This will go down to 5%~ if staking 10-15 levels higher than you. That's exactly what I did / am going to do.

 

Let's say you can win 15 stakes in an hour. Some stakes are worth 200K, some 10M. Let's say average is 400K. That'll be 6M / hour, and it's so much fun, that it does not seem work at all.

I didn't do this for money ( which game on the way ), rather for kind of "nerdgasms" which came from pissing people off and taking their money

 

What level is it common to find higher stakers, but still with the option of being a def pure?

 

As long as your combat is withing the range of 20-55 you'll be fine

 

People are saying it'll be like 200k stakes at these combat levels. I'm planning on being 40 combat'ish from the start, and higher later on. I want to stake 5m at a time at least when I begin. Would that be possible with my combat level?

 

Yes, you'll just have to look a little bit longer for an enemy. I used to do multiple Ranger set ( Ranger boots + robin hoot had ) stakes a day. It won't be that hard.

I also got to stake Santa twice ( 20M at the time ) won both

It's more common to stake like 2M at a time though.

What's a good Attack and Strength level with 75 Defence?

 

You may have convinced me to make one of these. The only thing is, when you kill enough people at 60 defense, you will eventually get to 61 defense and be ranked in the HS.

What HP should you be at while doing this?
