It's not going to take months for the Free Trade and Old Wilderness System...

Fact: Most Runescape players are children. What the hell do they know about programming and game design? I'm a college student in the field of Computer Science.

1. They already have the source code. Why would Jagex throw away valuable information if they were to screw up the game(which the did back in 2007)?
   
2. They already recieved anti-bot technology that came in last month.
   
3. Regarding free trade, Andrew says (developement diaries),
4. Quests must be rewritten, which means changing the storyline, which won't take more than a day or two at work of brainstorming and modifying the code.
   
5. Minigames will be relocated. Since they have all the brain of the game programmed(which means the algorithms, logic, math, etc inside the source code), all they have to simply do is get the graphics designer to move it to somewhere new.
   
6. For the other issues that go on a case-by-case basis, it wouldn't take long for Jagex to sit down with each other and debate what they should do.
   
7. This is a poll they have never done. If I'm right, this will be on their top priority, otherwise players will get mad.
   
8. This was planned because Jagex's traffic is going down pretty bad. Go to Google and search for Google trends. Once you're there, type in Runescape. You can see a significant decrease of traffic from 2007-2010 which means Jagex has already been losing alot of money. They must have planned this because this is their final solution to bring their revenue up because they know the majority wants the wilderness and free trade back. Just look at the poll. 90% to 8%.

I think they still have to do testing and stuff, even if they do have the old sourcecode already.

That would probably take a few days of their schedule.

 

Testing I would give a good week. They are Java and bug-testing geniuses.

 

I would say, most likely, some time in January.

Good post by OP. Kids talking about how long it will take to implement are clueless; they have been planning this for a while and already have the capability to make the switch with relative ease.

Anyone who has played pre-2008 could've predicted the outcome of the poll. Jagex surely knew how it would turn out. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already got most of it sorted out, if not all of it.

I totally agree on you. The most it'll probably take them is about 2 months. I can wait.

This is probably hari-kari here but I would rather have free trade and wildys back and have a super bot detector. I've always played honest, but making money post-GE made it difficult without botting so I quit. Come-on world 2 merching!

 

Yeah, they're such geniuses that we can already used PAFT, force-telly out on Jad, transfer any amount using Dungeoneering, leech items out of Dungeoneering, kill people in Falador, xfer money through loopholes, and many more.

Yeah I'm guessing this update will come out sooner than some may expect. A simple look at a few graphs shows that Runescape is loosing a lot of popularity. With the release of their new MMO even less will play Runescape. Like already mentioned I expect that they have already done most of the work for this update.

 

Agreed. Jagex isn't a few guys in a garage either, it's a mass company. People are talking it up like it's a private server where only a couple of people do the coding. Jagex can get through the coding within days. They more than likely have already figured out what they are doing with runescape and have already started coding.
