Tattoos and Piercings

In a few months I am getting my first tattoo or (hardcore) piercing. (I've had my ear pierced once.) I am not sure what I want to get, but it will be a birthday gift. I may be able to afford both with graduation money, but I don't know what I want if I have to choose one.

Here is what I am looking at:

Snake bites or a tattoo over my shoulder blade

Tattoos are forever and I don't want to regret it 20 years down the road, and piercings I can just take out and let grow up. I would like both but I don't know how to go. What does the community think?

I have a rather high pain threshold, but I would like to know the pain pros and cons of each also.

 

I have neither so I'm not sure about pain but I suggest not going for anything too extreme or highly visible. I mean you want people to see it but don't have something covering your whole arm or leg.
