The updates are failing, Always trying to mend things that arn't broken.. People don't want that anymore. I still play but i can't see the game going along for substantial years. With Jagex loosing more membership money.

 

Until it starts being a financial loss, which will be a LONG time. I'd guess around 2017.

Probably never. They are supported by the Freemasons. And the population of members now is a lot more than it was before. Because of more payment options.

it will most likly end or "die off" when jagex creates a new good rpg game.

 

Most likely with in 10 years, it will start to be so updated it won't even be enjoyable.

 

I don't think it'll ever die. Maybe in a LONG time like many decades.

This will be definitely a classic game that many will play and come back to in the future. Or it'll die off when Jagex releases another Runescape or something along those lines - so RS3?

But it will never fully die off, as it's a strong game and everyone is entertained.

#1 - Hundreds of thousands of paying players
#2 - Millions of site views per day, they make loads with ads
#3 - Some players quit, some players stay, however look at the words population and kids/teens today. Very much into video games, and the number of kids/teens is always growing. For every person that leaves there will always be at least 1 maybe more to fill the spot.
#4 - Technology these days is rapidly growing, jagex will always need programmers/designers and all that, but costs for the technology part will be way down.
#5 - No matter the updates horrible or amazing, people will play. So what if dung is the worst skills ever, don't do dung. So what if they remove trade limits, players don't care to much only the black market community.
#6 - It's extremely cheap, compared to other online games out there rs is about $0.20 a day. Parents are almost always busy these day, to keep there kid entertained for $6 is a bargain.

I doubt it will. Theres over 1 million players and i think over 200,000 people who pay. I doubt it will anytime soon.

 

As long as the newer generations that are growing and coming through start or keep playing Runescape it will remain.

Imagine if RS got shut down today, Sythe's economy would go crazy.

Anyways, i would say 5 years.

 

I would estimate a few more years until there are only a select few that continue to play. From the looks of it Jagex will be putting an end to botting and will have completely fucked over the economy and pking in the next year or two so the only people playing will be legit skillers. Now that isn't nearly enough money to keep the game going, to be honest jagex needs botters because they buy membership and give them money. So honestly either way Jagex looses.
