    Outrages prices.

Hey guys, I want to hear your opinions on outrageous prices. I've been offering a friend to fix his computer for ages, for example making his computer run faster. But anyways, he got the blue screen of death, so he brought it to a retail store, I'm not going to say which one but it's a well known company, but my friend said that they charged $60CDN just for a diagnostic. If they wanted to fix it, they would have to charge around $100CDN. But my friend is in Canada right now, so I'm waiting to get back there to help him fix his Laptop.

I wanted to talk about this, has any of you ever been ripped off like this? I think that's an outrageous price, I would fix his computer for free if he asked me at first. Anyways, lets discuss.

My friend is also from Hong Kong, you could survive over a month with $60USD if you really tried, $1USD is around $7HKD.

Well, I live in Australia. We get ripped of quite a bit usually.
IE. On Steam 'Black Ops' is $60USD in America, here it's $90USD.

    Hey 1337neo,

It's outrageous not outrages. When you say outrages prices, you are saying that something is makes the prices angry.

There was a tv repair place on my block that I went to, with my friend, a long time ago. They charged him $100 for diagnostics and then another $100 to fix the shit. The piece of crap broke a month later. Oh well...

What a rip off, the price between USD and AUD is just about the same. It's very close too. But yeah, it sucks.

I fixed my spelling on my post. However, viewing the topic in the place where all topics are shown, won't show it. If a Administrator or a Moderator can change that, that would be great, thanks. Also thanks for letting me know, my Engrish not too good, haha.

Your friend should have asked for a warranty, if anything happens, he can just bring it back.

Yeah, I've been ripped off once by BestBuy not too long ago, prob 3months ago.

Last Christmas, I was given a brand new Windows 7 desktop. After maybe 2 weeks of use, I got the BOS (Blue Screen of Death)... I ran RSBot on it, etc.. I then took it to the retailer I bought it from which was BestBuy in this case. I told them my issue and they had me pay $230 to have it repaired. I told them that I had warranty on it but they said that there was virus so it is my fault. I don't know much about these things so I just paid seeing no other way around the problem. Later when I received it back, I tried it and experienced the same problem still. I then took it back once again and told them that nothing was repaired and still had the same problem. They said that there might be hardware problem and sent it to HP. Then when I got it back again, the problem kept occurring, nothing was repaired. I called HP myself and told them my issue and how I paid to have it fixed by BestBuy while being on warranty. They told me that they weren't allowed to charge me while I was on warranty and sent me box in which I had to put my desktop in and sent it directly to them. Before sending it, I did little research on the problem when I came upon the BOS guide on Autofighter.org. I followed the steps on the guide and noticed that there was no fault in my desktop but my RSBot settings. I then called HP to let them know that I am not having it anymore and called the repair off. As for the $230 BestBut took, I never went to ask for it back. I don't think they would give it back but tell me that I had virus on it and was not the hardware problem but my fault. GF $230.

In my opinion, you should have Google'd the BSOD problem. Here's a video about how to fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JvwwiAegnI

But yeah, that price is outrageous, I can't imagine paying that much just for a repair. They shouldn't have charged you if they couldn't fix anything, they should refund you, in my opinion.

What do you mean? I'm talking about outrageous prices that people charge you, not low prices on eBay.

    The worst, is warranties.

I have a full warranty for my car. I had two issues that I needed fixed, a squeaky clutch and blower fan for the heat/ac. I took it to my dealer, told them exactly what was wrong ( I do my own work on cars, but never done a fan before). They wanted to charge me 70 dollars to inspect it, per problem. So 140$, even though I told them what was wrong with it.
