Thought it would be interesting to see how people from different parts of the world celebrate their holidays.

A traditional christmas day for me:
We usually travel up to Auckland and spend the day with our extended family.
Wake up at like 9 for breakfast and present opening, proceed to whoevers house and have a barbeque lunch with the whole family, play some games for a couple hours then everyone heads on down to piha beach for afternoon tea.

    New Years:
Go into town with friends and watch the live bands, and watch the fireworks the council put up. Wake up in the morning not remembering a lot.

How do you guys typically celebrate these holidays?

My family doesn't celebrate Christmas, at least not mine, maybe my uncle, aunts and cousins do, but not mine. My parents celebrate Chinese New Year, but since my cousins, uncles, aunts are not in my city, there's not much lucky red envelope for me. My parents also celebrate the Moon's birthday, I believe? I'm sort of lost in the translation sometimes, and they pray to Buddha on special dates for good luck.

I usually just spend Christmas with my immediate family on Christmas day, the next day I celebrate my dads Birthday then I shoot down the coast and celebrate Christmas with the remainder of my family, then stay there for New Year and go back.

Well on December 13th we celebrate what would be called St Lucy's Day in English. It's a Swedish thing. We all get together and eat potato sausage, bondost cheese, glogg, and cabbage pudding. We also go to a small Lucia dinner at my church with more kinds of food and a small Lucia procession that some of the families children take part in.

and on the 25th, we all get together and eat ham, cornbread dressing, and yams.

I usually go to vegas with my extended family/friends on a big, 3-4 night trip.

Strangely it's actually peaceful during xmas, way fewer people.

If my family is at home that year for Christmas:

Wake up at like 7 am, open presents, then at about 9 am we drive to this same restaurant that we do every year, get breakfast, then we head home and chill to around 3 pm, where all my dad's side of the family and some of my moms come and eat Christmas dinner (yes, at 3 pm...) at our families restaurant. We get home at around 6 pm, and we enjoy the rest of the evening doing whatever.

Otherwise, we'll be in either Mexico or some other warm place, and it will go something like this:

    -Wake up
-Open the small presents parents bought
-do whatever the rest of the day.
