Official Vent server

With the irc down is there any possibility of making an official sythe vent server? I have seen several users attempt to start a few up but they died fairly quickly probably because members didn't know about it. I believe if we made an official channel with a tutorial (I could make it if needed) then it would be very active and members could talk with others. I have done some research and it doesn't cost very much to have vent server that can hold several hundred members at a time. You can also have donations to keep the server if cost is really a problem. Or a trusted member (I can do this) could buy a server and run it with moderators able to come in and moderator the server. I think this could really bring the community a bit closer if there are other ways of talking together besides msn and just the forum.

 

I completely agree With Bubba, It seems like a good idea. But as stated before it could take some time and hard work. I also Would like to volunteer myself to help out for this.

I used to idle on Snare's vent all the time, 3-4 people would usually be on. I'm sure we can get more people to get on a vent, it's just that people didn't know about the last vent.

 

It's been done multiple times by me, even with a tutorial available. I made many efforts to bypass the "no advertising unofficial channels" rule but it wouldn't happen. Sorry to rain on your parade but I don't really see staff changing their mind

We only get a handful of people each attempt. It is a shame it never works out.

Good idea, doesn't work. We've had a few of them in the past, they go through the same stages each time.

#1: New vent, people go apeshit and you get a decent amount of people.
#2: After a week or two, the users decline until you have a few regulars.
#3: Another 2 weeks - a month, the regulars give up and you have a dead vent server.

 

So why not add Vent or IRC as a web client to a section of the site, that way people come to sythe.org and can Chat and trade without the hassle of DLing stuff. If it's here I'm sure people using it will skyrocket compared to past attempts.

 

I would refuse to endorse anything that isn't run by Sythe himself.

Every "unofficial" attempt at creating a place for Sythe people to hang out other than Sythe.org itself has turned out to be a problem.

 

Yea, I've see a lot of forums (WoW guild sites) where it shows all the channels of the vent, who's in what channel, how many people are on (etc.) It's usually on some side of the homepage/main page.

But you'll probably still have to DL vent, never saw it as a webclient.

I wouldn't mind chilling in one once I get a new comp. Doesn't have to be official or anything.

 

I have a vent if a mod wants me to make it official just ask me.

 

Yea, our vent we use has a few people from top page who just chill and we all talk about skilling etc. Not a lot of RWT except eachother overpaying for skills and charm collecting every once in awhile.

 

We've had plenty of them. None of them last a long period of time. Not expecting any different results.

I was a regular though that didn't stop until the vent got shut down =/.

 

Let's go offiical vent server!

 

I don't think Sythe will enforce this, seeing he's already worked on an IRC and it didn't work out.
