I need a VPS that will allow me to run RSBots.net bots. Right now, I own a 512 MB Virpus bot that only allows me to run 1 bot. I was originally going to purchase another 2.5 GB VPS from RSBotVPS, but unfortunately, they stopped taking PayPal payments.

Can anyone recommend me another VPS with a review of it? Thanks.

Pretty much the same as Virpus, just it runs Java correctly. You have to buy the Xen packages to get it to work, but my Xen Warp 2 ($26/mo) can run like 7 accounts at once.

If you need help setting it up, I'd be happy to help. Let me know via PM. I've set up about 5 so far.

It's only 1 GB. How can it run 7 accounts?

    Thanks for the info guys.

What about the IP addresses? I mean most VPSes have the same IPs... won't jagex associate one account to another and keep and eye on it?

    Sorry noob here. :D

I don't know why people keep saying VPS's share IP's. I haven't heard of a single host that doesn't provide at least 1 dedicated IP.

This isn't shared hosting, I don't think it's even possible for VPS's to share IP's.

It's burstable. It also varies on the bot. I can get 4-5 sorc gardens or 7 thievers on it, because thiever takes less RAM. The only time I actually went to 7 thievers was just to test it out... it crashed after 8 ;)

I need a VPS to bot on

OP, I checked out Viprus and so far the cheapest I could find was $5/mo (512/ 2048). You DON'T reccomend people to take it up? I have above basic linux knowledge so setting up would be fine if I can find guides on it.

The thing is that I just want to try out VPSs since its my first time. That's why I'm so stingy on my budget. I just wanna see if it's my cup of tea since I do have 1 extra laptop 2GB ram to run it on...

I did a quick calculation (which is most probably not correct at all) lol and i came to a number that running a macbook 2.0ghz 24/7 would cost me USD$7/mo while purchasing a VPS would cost me USD$10/mo (a well known decent seller)

Is this true? Or I'm I totally getting it wrong?

If you guys need the local website that I got my conversion from, I can provide it to you. It's the official website for our country's electricity.

Thanks in advance. I'm torn between these two for quite some time :p

Virpus has some sort of Java limit, as far as I know. It runs fine for a while, but Java completely dies after a while. It's not made to sustain as much load as the Nexus client puts on the system.

As for your questions, I'm not sure what you mean. Running a VPS can be done from anything -- even an iPhone. You don't need "an extra laptop". That's the point of a VPS--it does stuff 24/7 if your computer cannot be used. If you have a free computer and no reason to run bots on a different IP, then just use the laptop instead of the VPS.

Ouh okey then... no Viprus for me :)

Haha I meant the latter, I have an extra laptop that I can use to run my bots (2-3 max so far) and I was wondering whether getting a VPS would be net cheaper (Electricity Bills vs VPS service)

So I guess I don't really need a VPS unless I want to run more bots (3+), and for what ever reason need a different IP...

You might save $10 or so a month on electricity using a VPS, but they are so fidgety that I recommend against it, unless you have to. The client isn't as well-coded for Linux, so there are setup issues, and a lot of VPSes are dropping Java like flies because of the hard load on their servers.

    What OS?

Linux = Cheaper but harder if you haven't worked with it before

Windows = More user friendly if you don't know linux but its more expensive.

Linux = Cheaper AND very lightweight, meaning it can run more bots. Small learning curve, but after that it's pretty simple.

Windows = More expensive AND XP takes up a lot of memory, meaning less bots. There is no learning curve for most people, since we all use Windows anyway.

Yep it's definatly worth it reading up a tutorial guide for linux if you're getting a VPS. Some people just won't get used to it though :)
