I've noticed a lot of Jagex hate going around. I can understand it from the point of view of a PKer or RWTer, but for the average player like me (a main, so to speak) what's so bad about them? They create a lot of mid-high level content and it seems like they're pretty good at listening to what players want as long as it's on a large enough scale.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, but what's up with all the hate?

All the hate is from people who are still bitching and moaning for the old wildy back and duel arena back and old graphic's back and the whole climbing boot's thing.
I personally dislike them because they don't "Test Release" their updates.

    Testing would be great!

&& I think it's from people missing certain aspects of the game that were taken out ages ago. Maybe people should start being more positive, they'd have a much more enjoyable experience!

Z0mg ikr? If they "Test Released" their update's they probably wouldn't have a angry mob outside their Studio's all time.
Edit: Which I have nothing to do with...

Yes. It would give Jagex the chance to see how it works in the game, and players responses would be.

    I see.
I understand people being extremely upset with that, but as a company, it was a move they felt they had to make. Also, why can't people understand that the updates that are happening now (Dungeoneering, dragon defender, etc.) are furthering the potential experience for the -majority- of Scapers.

Also, by test releases, do you mean released to all players (assuming the content is accessible with their current membership status) for them to try, or something closer to selecting a few thousand and putting them on their own few servers to test it (something like MapleStory's Tespia)?

We hate because they try fixing things that are clearly not broken and make them broken. Trying to stop RWTers they took out a lot of aspects of the game that made this MMORPG unique, pking, staking etc. Did it affect RWTing? Not really just go to the gold section and look at all of the uprising Chinese gold selling sites. So in the end they screwed regular players but didnt really affect rwters at all.

Second off, graphic updates such as the update for the d scim was definitely not needed why fix something that is not broken? They claim to listen to what the players want but that is clearly not the case with Jagex.

With every update they are trying to get closer and closer to what WoW is, since WoW is the most popular RPG game they are trying to copy every aspect that they can of it.

Also what we mean by testing releases is that they should have a dedicated team test content before they release it, particularly they should have a bug abuse testing team to try and find any and all bugs in the game. Notice how many of their recent updates have been glitched beyond belief.

I agree with your first point.

However, they don't implement things like graphics changes to fix things, it's all about progressing. It's done with all products and video games seem to be the only place it isn't welcomed. If they don't give us new things, why should we stay with them when there are a bunch of other MMO's updating things and always looking for ways to make things better? That's all they intend to do with most updates.

Also, releases are tested by Jagex. I'm 100% sure that any MMO tests content before throwing it out for the public to exploit all the bugs. I'm not sure whether they have a dedicated team or if it's just a group of JMods or programmers that do the testing, but it's done, hence the reason why there (99% of the time) aren't major bugs with updates they release.

[edit] - RS will never be WoW and they don't aspire to be like WoW. While games do rip portions of their content off of other games, they can't make it too similar because if WoW and Runescape become the same as far as gameplay goes, Runescape loses in the last category left: graphics.

I am not really familiar with maplestory and I think it would be difficult for JaGeX to do that in a Java based game, But what i was thinking is they release the update for a week or so before the official release and they hold polls and post a sticky in every forum section.

@PkwithPink I totally agree with you IMO Jagex really only made gold selling site's alot more successful more because of the trade limit gold is harder to transfer so they charge more.

Another reason why people have a problem with Jagex they are the only one's who test their updates.

Ohh okay. Yeah, I'm not totally familiar with programming, but the only flaw I see in a test environment like you talked about is that they would have to basically wipe all progress made over the week or so, or let you keep whatever you got in the update. This would either result in players not playing the week an update was being tested in order to not waste time, or players getting things like dragon defenders before they were released.

Well I never really thought about that but if they have the time to go to each account they find botting and roll it back I'm sure they could just remove item's all together. I seem to remember them doing something similar but I can't remember it for the life of me right now.

Heh =P The only thing I remember that was close to the scenario you've talked about is during the release of RS2 when they allowed players to do things for like a week before they'd reset, and I remember buying a ton of runes from the rune shop and maging the lesser demon in the cage for hours xD Also, duping phats. Forgot exactly how that one worked, but long story short me and all my friends had a few phats each before they wiped RS2 :p

I think a lot of the hate is based on their major interest in new players rather than giving the older players what they want, but this has changed in the last few months.

I will personally dislike them ever since the December 2007 killing of the game, if it's ever reverted I will love them forever :(

People need to stop crying about the old wildy. Though I do agree that they fix what's not broken.

And why the hell would they put so much work into updates when retards can just vote against it? For example, they spent ages on dungeoneering. What if the majority decided they didn't want it, out of spite?
No matter how much people complain, it's a game and every update entertains some people atleast.

My hatred derives from the fact that they ruined possibly one of the BEST games ever and as a company are ignorant, they do not listen to the community when they are quite obviously in the wrong or have done a bad update. They are a stubborn company who's main focus is luring in 9-11 year old's and keeping them playing the game as a member for as long as possible.

    Lol'd, dumbest button ever.

I just dislike the non-stop updating. Like, jeez! Give it a rest for a week. I feel like they constantly change things that didn't need to be changed. All us old players remember the days when runescape wasn't so...so...I can't even describe the difference. I honestly think if runescape was how it was years ago, they'd have more people than they do now.

They took out the very best thing in the game in order to stop RWT, yet it's still thriving. It's just...frustrating.

Majority of Runescape players are kids that are going to bitch about every update no matter what. I have disagreed with some of their updates (RWT, Duel Arena, Pking, Etc) but overall I think they have done an awesome job of creating updates that a majority of players can benefit from.

I disagree with the hater, ofc staking was fun and the old wildy that was indeed a bit shitty update but i love the trade max, getting rid of all the noob scammers and this game is not like wow... not at all and it will never be like it so stop the whining that they make it wow lookalike.. but still they are doing a great job with theire new quests and new items etc..

and theire updates are good for the biggest group of players its like wow they also update because of so many noobs want it to be changed.. its just the biggest groups count and there will always be a group disappointed
