Runescape's 10th Anniversary

Next month it will be Runescape's 10th anniversary, believe it or not. On 4th January 2011, it will have been 10 years since the Runescape classic beta was first released, since then Runescape has evolved into the game we play today. I guess that Jagex will probably do an event or something at least, to commemorate the anniversary.

I'm sure many of us on here would have been playing Rs since it was first released, it would be nice to share some stories on here about when you first discovered and started playing Runescape, and also what you think was the worst and best updates made to the game in the last 10 years.

Here's mine:

In 2003 or early 2004, I Googled "free online gamez" and found a link to Runescape (classic). I registered an account and played for around 2 weeks before becoming bored, due to the extremely repetitive nature of the game.

Sometime in 2004 after the release of RS2, I went onto the Miniclips website and there was a page which had Runescape on it. I registered another account on RS2 and played for about a month, after that I stopped playing for ages.

In late 2004 or early 2005, I came back to Runescape, albeit with a new account, as I had forgotten the password to my previous one. This got me really interested in the game, and I've been playing pretty much regularly since then. Although, I still have 3 or 4 months hiatus every year, mostly to keep membership costs down and because I get bored of playing too much.

The best updates that I think was ever made to Runescape, was RS2, the G.E (I still kind of dislike it, mainly because it messed up the game's economy) and summoning.

The worst are the RWT updates (removal of wildy, free trade and staking), the climbing boots update, and finally the old bounty hunter.

 

We'll all get partyhats for the 10th university!

 

Damn. The people that spent their life on RS collecting phats would be so fkn pissed. LMAO I'd love to see that happen.

Would be epic. But will never happen well i guess JaGeX will do something special, probably releasing something very new and exciting...something unexpected.

 

Damn... Reminds me when I started back in '05. I think I have been through about 10 accounts since then. Most of them I just haven't played any more or I gave to a friend and they just quit playing. I still play now but not very much. Don't have a lot of time for games like Runescape anymore. I hope they do something decent and don't have another lame event.

 

I don't think Jagex will pay much attention to it TBH.

 

Whatever they do, they gotta make it "big".
I don't want some tiny update... I want a big one that won't cause a catastrophy in the RSII economy such as the phat drops lol but something more like expanding the World Map, a new skill (although I think DG is enough for me for now), or even a new boss would be nice.

 

The thing that Jagex is doing is unexpected is closing the game down! Now people can have lives, well until they start wow. )

 

Yes, but then party hats would always be 1gp FOREVER, and no longer be rare items.

Considering everyone knows how rare they are, everyone would keep them waiting for them to rise someday however they would not.

It would be like walking around with a bronze medium helm. Wow you are pro at this game.

That's crazy, I totally forgot RuneScape was on Miniclip.

That's where I found out about it tbh. Miniclip was the shit.

 

I highly doubt Jagex will do anything, maybe just reopen Classic for members.

I started playing exactly one year and one day after it was released...I only know this because the fifth is my birthday lol, as a gift my friends got me, among other things, an addiction =/

 

i started at 2003 june-july(forgot already),then quitted at 2005 december(manual permanent ban)..then i send an appeal to runescape on 2009 july got unbanned and started playing since then*...i was 13 year old when i started playing,now i m 21 already* :'(

 

Well that is a long time

Some sort of event would be nice to commemorate it but I don't think anything too big.

 

yea, we all know what unexpected means with jagex..................

we should all get ready to riot at jagex hq, usuall tools: plane tickets,spray paint, Molotov cocktails, ak-47s, any other destructive devices

if they give us more hell, return the favor along with a vengeance for all the other horrid updates

 

If your 21 your the dumbest 21 year old on the history of the interwebs.

OT: I hope they at least release a small ingame event perhaps a Castlewars Event or it's been rumored on the ORS Forums they are going to be doing "Double" Exp weekend. And I also found the game on miniclip. Miniclip FTW.
