    The state of this country

Well at the moment here in Ireland it's all doom and gloom. The government has let us down (that's not being harsh in the slightest) and the IMF showed up yesterday to analyze how the country is being run and there's a big chance of a bail-out from the EU which is a big blow to us.

We may lose our sovereignty and no longer be an independent country, instead we'd be run by Brussels. There would literally be riots, people would be killed. Years ago thousands of great people died to gain our independence from Great Britain. If they saw the mess the country was in now, they'd be rolling in their graves.

I'm truly disgusted about all this, and I'm wondering have any of you heard of it and what you think?

I saw this in the paper today, sounds like Ireland is in deep trouble. From what I understand, Ireland has borrowed a lot of money the last 20 years and struggle now as a result.

It was also mentioned that a substantial part of the population is emigrating because of this. How are your views on this?

It's ridiculous. The Prime minister we have at the moment, Brian Cowan, was not elected but instead took over when our former prime minister Bertie Ahern resigned. For a start, I think Bertie Ahern should be in prison. He completely ruined the country and he KNEW what he was doing.

Brian Cowan to be honest, I feel sorry for him. He's been made prime minister and he's not the brightest of the bunch, though nobody could fully correct the mistakes and huge loans Bertie Ahern made. But I think Brian Cowans attitude is disgraceful. Everybody can tell by now that there's a huge chance of a bail-out but he still fully denies all. He doesn't think about the future, otherwise he'd tell the truth in the present.

We have a coalition government, between "Fianna Fail" and "The Green party". Fianna fail are mainly in charge, and in the next budget there's a chance there's going to be cuts on pensioners. The Green party have said they'd pull out of the government of this happens, which would mean there would be a general election and perhaps we could get a sensible government.

At the moment in my area (South Donegal) there is a bi-election. The 3 main candidates are people from Fianna Fail, Sinn Fein and Fine Gael. If anyone other than Fianna fail wins, Fianna fail won't have enough seats in government and there will be a general election.

All I can say is that a general election however it may happen, can't come quick enough. We need a sensible government that know what they're doing from the word go which we don't have.

Earlier this evening my mum said to me "Daniel, in 10 years time when you're grown up and out working and paying huge taxes on everything, you know why." It's because of these idiots and their huge loans. It's unlike you can blame us irish people. People pay taxes like they are supposed to. It's where that money goes that's the problem.

On St. Patricks day, Brian Cowan went to America with the taxpayers money. He released a statement saying "It's ok because I only spent £250,000". Well, last time I checked, that's alot of money for a couple of days in America, and who's pocket does it come out of? Certainly not his. Brian Cowan is being paid more than Barrack Obama and is getting probably more luxuries. It's a bloody jokes

It depresses me to say it but it's the first time in my life I've been ashamed and embarrassed to be irish.

Democratic governments are not run by a single man. Prime ministers and presidents in democratic governments are much more like public figures. Many people will argue with me about this but think about it if you are the president or the premier, you cannot do everything on your own. You need a cabinet to assist you in virtually everything. That is right, almost everything is researched, calculated, and debated inside the cabinet before showing the stuff to the president or premier. The president or premier may have multiple teams working on a single subject, then receive the results from the multiple teams and another team will decide which is the best to go with based on current situation. It is modern government, not like a kingdom where a king acts on his own. Either way, when one becomes a president or premier, one does not have much freedom to choose how to run his term. Things just kind of go with the flow.

On Ireland's case, I think you should blame the whole government, or even the whole country who voted for these politicians in the first place rather than blaming on the men alone.

Did you take a look at Obama? Most people who voted for him were so eager to vote for him in the first place because he promised to withdraw military from Iraq. Right after he won the presidency, the first thing he announced was more military in Iraq. Why? Because his cabinet calculated and assessed the situation considering short term and long term effects of the US, Iraq, the world around, the people, the safety, the covert military issues, information from CIA, information from FBI, information from the Pentagon and everything else and found out that the best way was to put more military into Iraq. I bet when he got the result from his cabinet, he was like "Oh $hit, people who voted for me are not going to like this. Do I really have to sign this? Okay fine." The general people heard the news and found him disgusting. Imagine if you were in his situation.

Being the descendants of two irish immigrants I can't help but feel your pain, and wish Ireland the best of luck on its upcoming elections.
