This could be a very different situation. Are you talking about people who know each other in real life cyber bullying or just internet foes cyber bullying?

    Both.

People who know other people in real life can kill someone elses reputation by cyber bullying. If one person has alot of friends and they dont like another perosn then they can make up rumours and then all the other people would hate that person. It all escalates from there, the bullied male/female could not be able to handle this bullying..Cyber bulling causes bullying which causes suicides...

There's hundreds of things that cause suicide though? Should we make them all illegal to? I'm all against bullying but... cyber bully is 100% preventable especially if they don't know each other in real life.

Drugs cause suicide, People have the ability to choose whether or not to use them.

Cyber bullying can not be preventable. Tell me can you spend a couple days of not being on the internet. Some people have to to check their emails, myspace, facebok, look up something, so its not "100%" preventable but i understand your stance. It still hurts people that have low self esteems. Do you think a college roomate should go to jail for posting a video of his gay roomate having sexual intercourse with another man on the internet, then the gay roomate commits suicide, Should the roomate be at fault?

Well here is a couple of videos of Stories of cyber bullying...If you dont want to watch them then dont.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXqocdThk8s&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TLVi4QImEY&feature=related]

Some of these videos are of bullying also. But cyber bullying and bullying go hand in hand.

I'll agree on a consent that real life friends or foes cyber bullying should be illegal but not on a level where someone just called you a bitch on facebook. People who don't know each other in real life and live a million miles away from you shouldn't have the power over you that'd make you commit suicide. Leave the area if you feel threatened.

If someone constantly taunts me on sythe, am I going to press charges? No that'd be silly.

It depends really on who takes the steps to prevent it from happening, or becoming worse.

If the people know each other in real life then it will be far more severe then if it's just someone you've never met, and are contemplating suicide, ridiculous? Yes, but does it happen? sadly.

I think that it should be a criminal offense because you are FULLY AWARE of the things you are saying and the actions that you are taking to make them worse.

Simply put: Just because you have rights to do things, doesn't make the things you do right.

It should be a criminal offense. There is no reason why committing a crime on the internet should make you immune to the law.

I believe it should be a criminal offense.

While some people may be able to ignore what people say to them on the internet, others may not. The only way we'll ever have societal rules that are accepted and correct is if we can find a way to respect everyone's differences. If there are 1% of people in the world that take cyber bullying badly and would do something as extreme as committing suicide over it, it should be taken seriously and as a criminal offense.

I believe after a certain point it should be a criminal offense, ranging from harassment charges to manslaughter.

When you repeatedly insult, torment, threaten, and mock people who are potentially depressed or mentally unstable, I believe you cross the line.

Just being called a bitch shouldn't be considered cyberbullying, but when it comes to repeatedly attacking one person, it should be.

if you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. simple principal that is applicable to every possible senario in life. not tough enough to make it in a gang, dont join. cant take the stress from a high profile job, dont apply. cant take abuse from people over the internet, dont use said internet. not complicated really.

You can't run from everything in life. Laws are there for a reason, and if suicides from cyberbullying in teens increase, expect new punishment/laws.

I'm interested in seeing where the line is drawn as to what is cyber bullying and what is not. How do you decide what's illegal and legal? Everyone reacts to certain situations differently and can take something more personal than someone else.

There is too much grey area to make this illegal. Everyone should be careful online regardless and not make themselves vulnerable to cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is the most spineless thing one could do to someone else.
