I've been using photoshop for awhile now, but this is the first time I've tried to created a "real" signature (using a render, c4ds, etc..)

CnC is MUCH appreciated. If you couldn't tell, I don't really know what the hell I'm doing (element wise- lighting, etc..) so I just kept adding stuff in until I found something that looked cool.

It is really good for a first. Only thing i see missing is a light source. The text needs to go as it is distracting from the focal. You used distortion filters a little to hard. and it messed up the flow on the right side. Your blending is pretty nice. KIU

For a first signature that's bloody insane.

But yeah, there are a few aspects to work on, but you seem like you'll pick that up soon enough.

Thanks for the input. I tried again below, but I still can't seem to get a good light source. Guess it just needs more practice.

As I was doing the signature I was actually really disappointed how it was coming out. But at the end I fiddled around with color balances/brightness/saturation and got something I'm somewhat pleased with.

Is the text good or too tacky? I tried to remove it from the focal point so it wasn't distracting, but I think I still screwed it up in the end.

    PS: I <3 distortion filters :p
PSS: Should I be using brushes? I don't use any custom brushes in my signatures, or any smudging like I see in a lot of tutorials. The only things I used to make these signatures are c4ds, blending modes, gradient maps, and filter effects. Should I be utilizing more?

    Thanks

Thats mainly what i use, Text doesn't always have to be in a tag and when i looked at the one you just posted i didn't see any untill i actually looked for it. You are defiantly one step ahead of everyone else when they started. Smudging can be helpful in some things but can get very out of hand if used to much. For light sources Normally round soft brushes with and playing around with the blending options makes for a good light source. to make lighting effects go to filter>render>lighting effects and play around with those as they can help with your lighting. defiantly read tutorials and download some PSD packs to learn new effects.

If you really feel like you need to add text read up on the tutorial for good text placement

    Hope I helped!
