If we joined together as a planet we could use all of our resources to build a ship that would take 76 years to get there!

Tell me your thoughts. Should the world make peace? Should we use all of our resources for this journey?

 

Build a ship? so we travel to the plant by ship... thats fun.

 

The images we see of the planet aren't the same as it is. For all we could know the images we see are 2,000 years behind of what it actually looks like.

 

We don't know the planet is like earth, we just know it's of similar size and in the right area.

And it would take thousands of years to get there, not 76.

 

Seems a little too good to be true, tbh.

I wouldn't be surprised if the article left out some small bit of information which is very important in the human colonizing of a foreign planet.

 

Also the chance of the planet being the same/similar is over 1x10^Infinite power. The only reason why our planet can support "complex life" is because all the right conditions happened. The sun is the perfect size, the moon isn't too small, the Earth is the right distance away from the sun.

 

76 years, or 76 LIGHT years? There is a HUGE difference between those two.

 

Is there any proof backing this up? That's like a blogging site, and based on how it's written (very poorly, grammatical errors everywhere) and if it was real and serious I'm sure it'd be published by a known astronomer(s), or NASA, for that matter, with proof backing it up.

 

I dont believe it. Just look at the author of the article. Looks like an emo whore. I would kinda believe it if the picture was an old man with glasses and a lab suit/

 

We had to figure that there was a planet like earth somewhere in the entire universe, just look how big it is. I've found another article on this, and apparently it's called Gliese 581G, and it's about 20 liteyears from our solar system, so getting there seems like an impossibility to visit at this point.

 

So lets build a ship, travel there, leave no resources on earth, a lot of people die of old age, only to find out that it does have life and they kill us/don't want us there anyway.

 

Cant go...Ohwell...Build a ship that can last 1000s of years? slowly travel there, have a society on the ship....generation after generation, then finnally get there, but disease, and lack of peace would stop this.

 

Why don't most people consider the possibility of the planet's inhabitants being hostile?

 

Why would that matter? If they attacked out planet it would take 2000 years to reach us if the weapon used traveled at the speed of light...wait

Why do you assume that it does have intelligent inhabitants?
It's not a given.

What? It doesn't need to have intelligence to be hostile.

 

It could have dinosaurs for all we know.

 

I doubt it will ever be possible for us to reach it as we will never be able to travel at the speed of light.
