South Korea Bombed By North Korea.

Note: I may not be right, so if there are any mistakes, please point them out

Yes, I'm talking in the present tense.
South Korea, *eh hem*, the country I'm currently residing in is being bombed by North Korea ATM.

Apparently, SK troops were having their millitary exercises too close to the border and a patrol ship was patrolling a bit too close to the border.

Wait, seems like the bombing's stopped.

Ok, right now
1. 10 towns are on fire,
2. a mountain is on fire, and the smoke is so thick that you can't see the mountain. and it's a mother***ing mountain, mountains are big. You need a ****ing hugea** fire to make enough smoke to hide a whole mountain.
3. The current known casualties are 10 cvilians injured, 3 civilians seriously injured, and one soldier dead

update 2:
we fired back about 80 shells.

my sources in the US Millitary tell me that they're sending armed troops to the location
the president's being the pussy he is and he's hiding in a underground bunker

Update 4.
2 more deaths were confirmed; civilians this time, so 4 deaths in total.

The North started its attacks approximately 9 minutes after SK was done with routine millitary exercises near the border.

The South responded with k-9 tanks and jets.
However, there was some confusion about the response of fire.

First of all, it was done 13 minutes after NK had finished firing.
It turns out that it's related to the malfunctioning of the radar on the island

Second, the South has a policy that they will respond with twice the power when attacked. The North fired around 200 shells, but only around 80 for south.

If I'm correct, we were not ready for these kinds of attacks and did not have the proper aresonal to respond with 400 bombs/shells/missiles
and also, there were only 6 k-9 tanks stationed on the island, and 2 of them were had mechanical troubles. I hear that about 5 jets attacked and did most of the damage, while the tanks did barely any at all.

In the South, a whole island and the town in it was burned to the ground ( I don't know about the millitary base there )

But it is speculated that a lot more damage have been done to the north

Who are your 'US military sources'? Also, I'm pretty sure North Korea's diplomatic stance towards Russia and China war enemies. It probably wouldn't be smart for them to do anything further. Everything I've heard about NK is from a friend, not sure how reliable his information is. North Korea is a really really strange country, has an unknown population and military size, the dictators obese son escaped to Japan to go to disneyland, it's just really bizzare. Hope this situation (if it is truth) doesn't escalate to involving the U.S.

 

I live in South Korea too.

I think there's no real reason to become concerned though. If North Korea were to make a move, it would be very ill-advised.
Last time they attacked, Kim Il Sung had the backing of Stalin as well as Mao before he marched in. That was also before the South had the backing of the UN and US. Hence, he felt certain of victory. That the US stepped in wasn't planned.

If Kim Jong Il were to start a conflict this time, though, he can't count on the backing of China or the Soviet Union (obviously), and can count on the US and UN backing the South. He'd have to have his head all the way up his ass if he were to assume he could emerge victoriously with the combined might of the rest of the world against him.

I think he's more intelligent than that.

On a serious note, i don't know enough about the situation over there to comment on it knowledgeably, but i don't think South Korean troops hovering near the border would have been a great idea in the first place. Surely they could've thought, 'Hey, won't this kinda freak the northies out?'

 

I disagree.
South and North are still technically at war, so why shouldn't either side keep troops at the border?

Also, the troops at the border and on patrol are more a show of force than an actual threat to North Korea. The South puts only their 185cm+ tall soldiers there, just to intimidate the North.
I guess since there's not really a physical war anymore, it's become a little more psychological.

 

The south will not invade the north, and the north knows they would be annihilated if they attacked the south, as well as the inevitable collapse of Kim Jong-il's government happening a lot sooner.

And yes, there's really not that big of a concern.
I personally don't believe that this is enough to start a war, it's like rubbing sticks to start a fire...

But if we DO go to war, then we're all ****ed.

Would the South annex the North? or would the North have to rebuild itself?

I think the South would annex the North, but that it would end the prosperity of the South. The North's backwardness would kill the South's economy, and hence Korea would not be the prosperous and wealthy nation it is today.

 

There are millions of people in North Korea living in poverty.
If NK was annexed by SK, where would they all go to?

Yes, you're right, they would ruin South Korea's economy.
However, since North Korea DOES have a lot of usefull resources, we would build ourselves up ... But that would take lots of time.

And also blamed Seoul for starting it.

If military moves are made this can end up really really bad North Korea has an exceptional amount of Nuclear warheads.

 

Why would a country as small as North Korea, try to attack THE U.S. They'll get owned.

 

Because they know we don't fight like the other side. We have rules to how we fight, they can just blow up a town while we have to make sure it's clear of civvies, etc.

 

I doubt that this will start in a war or something. The U.S can clearly win the war when fighting North Korea for sure.
