Internet Problem

Here is the issue. My parents watch t.v on the internet and they watch it a lot when they come home from work. At the same time I sometimes download games from the internet. This slows down the internet making, whatever they are watching on t.v lag like crazy. That gets them mad and they start yelling at me and telling me to turn my computer off. How can I fix this problem.

Don't tell me to wait until they stop watching t.v. Most of the time they watch it. The only way I can do it is when I'm home alone. Then when they come home they and I ruin the speed again.

Maybe suggest to them to buy cable, that way they don't have to use the internet to watch TV?

Yea, that's what I was thinking. But then I always get the urge to wake up in the middle of the night and check on the download. That really annoys me. I guess there really isn't any way to make the connection better. =|

Just check the downloads before you head out for school.

 

Limit your own speed such that they can watch TV without lag and you can download. I use NetLimiter for this purpose on Windows. If you use Linux, there should be internal throttling feature.

Moreover, you can also use routers that will allow you to place multimedia's streams' priority higher so that the TV will have better priority. The higher priority will give the TV faster response.

just buy one of those digital cable boxes and just pay for the box and not have to pay for anything else but get local channels so they wont need to use the internet as often. i understand becasue i dont have cable or anything to watch exept for dvds

 

If they're not watching live tv or whatever, they can record it or let it load before they watch it so they already have like the whole thing buffered.

Not true. Just mod your cable modem.
