Well then what's wrong with not allowing people to sell ranks at all, merch stock is the same thing but safer?

If a ban on these sales cannot be reached, how about a TWC sticky explaining the dangers of these clans at the very least. Also, Support

I am 100% for shutting down all merch clan rank threads.

Yep, you also cannot guarentee that the clan will last for a specified time or anything.
And even clan merching is not 100% safe, for sure if it's a smaller clan.

Not sure what you are talking about but if you take plznate's merch for example it is going quite successfully. He basically attempted a buyout of the item (& sold some to Sythe members like myself) before releasing it to the public when it has rose significantly therefore making it rise even more due to increased demand.

Plznate had set a price on what the item would reach, if it would not reach that price he was offering a refund for the difference of what price it reached instead.

But these merches are long term, if a leecher comes along (no offence) and offers the same thing, not many people would buy. And if alot of people would buy and the item would not reach the price he could just walk away whilst owing lots of people refunds which he never intended on paying in the first place.

Again, as I said I am obviously against people selling ranks if it is a scam. That being said however, there are other quality clans in RS, some of which it may be profitable to buy into. I simply would advise EXTREME caution when dealing with a relatively new or untrusted member when looking into that sort of purchase.

I am extremely against rank sales, however I feel merch stock is a safer way to go because it is easier to monitor and determine what was guaranteed/what wasn't guaranteed. With that being said I fully support the ban of the sales of merchant clan ranks.

Elevating it to Staff lounge as I am much happier with merch stock with contracts then this rank selling garbage.

Possibly we could have a staff approved merch rank sale. We'll cross that if we ever get there.

Its the fact that 99% of these end up with someone mad and most don't do it as a service, they do it for legal scamming.

That wasnt the same as what Nate would be doing. And farcast didn't know what he was doing very well.

I quite frankly agree. Again thats why I think the tendency on Sythe should be to consider things on a case to case basis.

What Fire said basically, no offence sam : P

What would be the difference between Nate's one and any other? There is no 100% way to ensure nobody gets scammed.

The only way I can think of it possibly happening is this: Only let people with rares to join, as if the item dumps early they can use it as junk when selling the rare. Having daily checks - which can get annoying in itself. Lastly, continue what Nates doing and giving people a certain percentage of what they purchased back - if they have held onto the item when it reaches the goal.

When I expressed interest in making a clan, I said the ability to be able to junk trade or pay me to junk buy would be one requirement for you to buy a rank so that sort of issue doesnt happen. I wouldnt have daily checks, just checks at the end of the merch to verify they have the stock. If they have it, they are free to dump, if they dont, they lose their rank.

    Merch clan ranks

Umm reading through the many opinions on this thread I personally feel that any merched items should just not be traded on sythe indefenitely. It doesnt matter whether your buying some stock or buying some ranks it all still comes down to merchin.

I mean anything can go wrong during a merch most commonly some dude with thousands of your item hoarded in bank will quietly just kill the item and everyone who paid legitimate $$ will be out of pocket. Sythe cannot do anything about that and since its out of sythe's hands they don't know who to lay down the ban hammer down on... the founder? possibly.

And directed more so at fireZ... to say that some people can do it and some can't just shows your naivety. Plznate may have billions of vouches but that does not mean that he should be somehow exempt from a rule. If he gets banned for infraction and cannot communicate with his buyers where would the buyers go?.

I feel so confused because on one hand you layed down the law with zephyr and his merchin. On the other hand Plznate doing THE EXACT same thing because what is selling ranks?... its giving you the right to early stock on an item before everyone els in the public cc.. What is plznate doing? he's cutting ranks but goes straight to selling stock. Nobody reported zephyr to have scammed but he still got banned.

What comes across adamantly is the simple pure fact that if you have a certain amount of vouches and that you are a sythe postaholic you may reach a stage that plznate has and become above any rules or regulations. Because it certainly feels that he can get away with murder on this site.

You banned one - But let the other stay.... what does that tell me about sythe?
