    What if...

This is a completely wishful thinking here! Let's pretend for a second, auto bots are in-fact causing the skill resets due to a random glitch or bug of some sort. Which seems to be what JaGex is leading us to believe in their various posts on this matter... Anyhow, if someone were to confirm this (including JaGex) and a programmer found a way to manipulate this bug into raising said skills... What damage would you say it would cost Runescape in the long run? I know this is far-fetched however nobody has confirmed otherwise with the glitch. Picture everyone slowly changing their skill level completely? or perhaps adding an extra 10,000 exp every hour on the hour to skills that they aren't even training? To me and probably many of you guys it's wishful thinking however we've all heard of things like the Varrock Massacre and how slim the chances of that ever happening were until it happened of course. There are tens of thousands of us who use auto bots here and we all know how easy it is to create a new account and fool around with this theory and if it were to become a reality :) What are your thoughts, opinions, rants, whatever! Let's elaborate upon this shall we?

Well, as I know of it...I think this can/is happening. Due to the resets as you say, you could manipulate the xp their killing and finding a way to like you said get 10,000 xp. It happened at dungeoneering. So I do BELIEVE that this possibly could happen. So I'm curios if someone could possibly alter the bots in a way to not reset, but to give xp. I think that it could happen. :)

As we've seen in the passed with Cursed U and the Varrock Massacre all it takes is one person, and in RuneScape I think it's safe to say that one person would tell another friend, who would tell two other friends, so on so forth. No matter what a chain reaction is bound to occur as it has every time a glitch comes to the surface!

Well, for one, the resets aren't some mysterious bug. That's too convenient of an explanation. For another, there have been EXP glitches in the past... Jagex quickly covers them up and often resets the skill back a couple of hours to before the bug was found.

Remember the dung glitch of 1m exp/hr a couple of months ago?

This isn't an in-game glitch we're talking about, this is a glitch in the comfort of our own auto bots. We're manipulating Runescape outside of Runescape.

As much fun as this would be if it could happen, it wouldn't

Jagex has LAYERS upon LAYERS of encryption and protection over their servers that store this kind of thing. Jagex Mods confirmed that it is not a glitch and that it is related to botting. The thread on the rs forums has since been deleted (Gee, I wonder why?) and they have hid behind their lies, (like usual)

A theory that I have been informed of by a 'claimed' player mod is that Jagex is taking the scripts of the most common bots and uses some form a code to insert it into their Detection Processes, so that upon detecting that particular script, it resets your skill to 1, or whatever level.

The theory above has not been 100% proven, but it is a nice theory to think about, and could be possible.

No damage at all dude, you're daydreaming.

What happens when a big glitch happens? Jagex rollback EVERYONE.

And btw the "stat resetting" is not a glitch. It happens when you bot too much, they just fuck up your stats as a "warning".

You mean the Guides Section? lol.

But yea, OP, I don't think it's possible. Resets are just Jagex dicking around.

Trent, before you agree to buy any of the bots from any of the sites, they usually have a thing that makes you agree that you are not Jagex staff. If, in fact, they are using the scripts to try to figure out what they did wrong, they could have possibly voided a contract.

Which would explain why they are calling it a "bug" and I am sure with all of the fancy lawyers they have they can get past that little contract. I wouldn't be surprised if they are developing a detection system for nexus bots right now.

But you don't know for sure that it has something to do with the bots and even if it does I doubt this will ever happen.

Just because they have some disclaimer does not mean it's a legally binding contract that Jagex can get in trouble for breaking. From a legal point of view all those Terms of Service can be completely useless and irrelevant.

Just like putting "If you are part of Jagex you cannot enter this site" means absolutely nothing legally.

Encryption has nothing to do with this. At all. Nobody is hacking into their servers and trying to modify data. The discussion is about whether it's possible to use the runescape client to modify server-sided data beyond how the game intended you to.

If it is happening somehow, Jagex would be the first to know and would do their best to make sure we don't realize what we're doing. That way they can patch up whatever flaws there are before we start digging further and find ways to modify stats.

EDIT: Taking scripts and using some sort of code to insert "it" into their Detection Processes? None of that even makes sense. It's well known to everyone that many player mods are part of these cheating communities. Therefore Jagex would never ever let any player mod know how they were building their detection systems.

just go to mod mark/ or jag mod andrews house and ask him for all his knowledge of the jagex server secrets, or a maxed out account

And that is why I said it is a theory, and that it's not proven. L2Read. Besides, it would not surprise me if it was true, because it would not be that hard to add that to a form of detection. Insert the script's code, and then code in a method that can detect when a player's actions perfectly match a predetermined action in the script (most likely a mouse movement algorithm). Jagex can analyze where your mouse is if it's on the game screen, so it wouldn't be that hard to do what I said.

Again, I'm not saying the theory is in fact how they are doing it, but it's plausible and wouldn't be a difficult way of going at it. Nonetheless, the fact of the matter is that there is no way to proof or disprove this theory.
